Waterpark Profile

Indoor Vs outdoor
waterparks "There are many advantages indoor waterparks have over outdoor waterparks,” offers Aquatopia partner Pat Helland. “In areas with four seasons, indoor waterparks have large appeal during the colder months. Outdoor waterparks can sometimes offer more attractions because they aren’t restricted by four walls, but even this is starting to change. At 125,000 sq-feet (11,613 sq m), you can literally fit two or three indoor waterparks from 10 years ago inside of Aquatopia. Aquatic Development Group, the waterpark designer and builder, knows how to maximise controlled space to get as many slides and attractions inside without compromising key safety initiatives such as lifeguard sight lines.”
Storm Chaser is billed by Aquatopia as “the most exciting, Bombora FlowRider
emerging into daylight and a 60ft (18m) waterfall. "Our river is anything but lazy," smiles Helland. Perched above the Flyboys swim up bar is Kartrite’s DHC-2 Beaver Float Plane, affectionately named “Spirit of Tannersville” Meanwhile the Bombora FlowRider comes complete with an Australian-surfing theme. "We feel that theming is a really important part of any
major project if you’re going to do it right," asserts Helland.” Here the theme is about world discovery. Kids will love it, and parents will appreciate that it’s subtle, educational and done in a way that isn’t obnoxious for anyone over the age of 10." Upon opening, Aquatopia featured three major attractions
from WhiteWater. Just as its rather wonderful name implies, the Venus SlydeTrap devours its riders, as they slide through it in three to six-person family rafting tubes. Fusing three exhilarating waterslide experiences into one, the 600-foot (183 m) long attraction is the only combination family raft ride of its kind in the world. Starting with a drop, riders speed down an enclosed serpentine flume before they are injected into a 16ft (5m) sphere where they bank around 90° turns and then plunge back into darkness. Next they are propelled back into the rushing waters where they will experience a “manta” wall crawling Zero-G before being swallowed whole and spat back out into a plunge pool below.
Camelbeach: Camelback’summer waterpark
gravity-defying water-based coaster that exists in any indoor waterpark in the US.” At 756ft (230m), it’s certainly the longest. Guests can chase the storm on one or two-person tubes that travel uphill on jets of water, moving between open and fully enclosed dark and translucent sections of slide. Five hair-raising drops and four breathtaking curves give riders a feeling of weightlessness, providing thrills to the very end. Then there’s Kartrite’s Quest, a fully-themed multi-level AquaPlay structure. It features a 1,000 gallon (3,785 litre) giant dumping bucket perched more than 52ft (16m) overhead and 84 interactive water effects including bubbler and geyser jets, rotating dumping troughs, hose jets, pull ropes, tipping cones, water guns, plunger jets, water wheels and water cannons. Added theming elements include the flags of the world, navigation symbols, constellations, Kartrite’s Library, a hang glider, giant carved tree, huge sail, expedition boat, periscope and an Atlantis-themed kids'-zone The economic impact of new facility will be immediate,
predicts Ellis. “In its first year of operation, Camelback Lodge and Aquatopia indoor waterpark is projected to attract more than 600,000 visitors,” he notes. “According to a study, it’s projected to generate tax revenues in excess of $152 million for the township, county and state over a 10-year period.” Generally, indoor waterparks draw families with younger
children, but Ellis believes Aquatopia is different due to its mountain location. “Families will still be a very strong part of our audience segment,” he concludes, but because of the mountain location, Camelback Lodge will have a much broader reach, appealing to generations of skiers and winter enthusiasts, couples, and groups wanting to meet outside of the typical boardroom." Camelback Resort’s existing seasonal outdoor recreation
offer comprises skiing, snowboarding, snowtubing, zip-lining, a treetops obstacle course, an ADG mountain coaster and more, not forgetting the Camelbeach outdoor waterpark, which operates from the Memorial Day weekend (late May) through until early September. But now guests don’t have to check the calendar to enjoy all that Aquatopia has to offer. And after all that hard day’s play, they also have somewhere to stay – Camelback Lodge.
