SCREEN: 10.4-inch, with a clear picture quality. The touchscreen felt a little ‘sticky’ and responded more quickly to a pen top than a pinkie. It would also have been useful for the screen to extend down a little to better suit the seat’s recline or flat position.
HEADSET: Featured oversized synthetic pads that completely covered the ears. Their noise- reducing capacity was impressive.
AIRLINE: BRITISH AIRWAYS FLIGHT: BA 67. HEATHROW-PHILADELPHIA AIRCRAFT: BOEING 777-200 CLASS: CLUB WORLD SEAT: 13F BACKGROUND: SUPPLIED BY THALES, THE SYSTEM IS ON BA'S SIX 777-300S AND IS BEING RETROFITTED TO ITS 18 777-200S. IT WILL ALSO FEATURE ON BA'S NEW AIRBUS A380S AND BOEING DREAMLINERS.
CONTENT: 230+ TV programmes, 70 films, 400 CDs and interactive games. The new releases are three or four months out of the cinema. Kids' content had parental locks. Interactive features allowed flyers to ‘chat’ or play games with other passengers, or visit forums.
SPECIAL FEATURES: ‘Extended IFE’ means you can watch from the second you reach the seat
to close to landing, with pauses only for pre- take-off safety announcements.
ALSO WORTH A MENTION: Passengers can compile a customised list of CD tracks from the selection. There are two USB ports and a RCA port for personal devices. A ‘Your Journey’ section enables travellers to browse the onboard service, inflight shop, promotions and arrival videos.
PUZZLING: The large Kids Zone section (for up to 12s) was impressive, with up- to-date movies and games, although I did wonder just how many juniors dofly in Club World.
FINAL THOUGHTS: BA’s extensive and varied IFE system is hugely welcome on a day flight; probably less so on an overnight. After all, why pay for a flat bed and then not use it?
