he pivotal focus of lunch! is innovation – highlighted by popular feature areas like the lunch! Innovation Zone. This year’s show will welcome 37 new innovators to the zone, which is designed to promote new products from smaller suppliers and emerging start-ups. At the Innovation Challenge Showcase an audience of buyers gather to see live pitches from the finalists of Innovation Challenge. Each company has two minutes to present its product to three judges, explaining what makes it a market changer. Speakers at this year’s show will include former Pret managing director, Andrew Walker and Andrew Sherwick, who until very recently was senior buyer at M&S foods and is also ex-chair of the British Sandwich Association. Walker’s session, ‘Maximising your lunchtime opportunity’, will take place on the opening day of the exhibition and will divulge strategies on how retailers can maximise sales during the “magic two-hour [lunch] window."
“While innovation is hugely important, it’s not the only route to success,” says Walker. “A customer- focused approach to service and menu planning can be equally important.” Both speakers will also exhibiting at the show. Walker has a stake in Innovation Zone exhibitor Pots & Co. and Sherick will be showcasing his new venture Mr. Sherick’s Shakes, premium pre-packed milkshakes for retail.
