SINGAPORE UPGRADES IT ENTERTAINMENT

 Singapore Airlines has launched a new KrisWorld inflight entertainment system as part of a seat upgrade programme in First, Business and Economy classes. The airline is investing nearly US$150 million to introduce new products initially on eight Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and then onto the Airbus A350 aircraft scheduled for delivery in the years ahead. Existing KrisWorld systems on other aircraft already in service may also be retrofitted. The airline worked with Massive Interactive to develop

its next generation KrisWorld entertainment system, which is based on a Panasonic Avionics hardware platform.

The new KrisWorld features larger LCD screens and video touchscreen handsets across all classes. LCD screens will increase from 23 to 24 inches in First, 15.4 to 18 inches in Business and 10.6 to 11.1 inches in Economy. Economy customers will also be able to browse more than 1,000 on-demand entertainment options by swiping or scrolling the touch-screen monitor.

They will be able to multi-task among the varied entertainment options available. For example, they can now watch a movie, while at the same time use the handset to keep up to date with the latest news headlines or track the aircraft’s flight path. Customers can also use the handset as a touchscreen trackpad to navigate KrisWorld and will find new features such as “Quick Search”, where a flick of the handset pulls up a playlist of all entertainment choices. www.singaporeair.com

 Inflight mobile phone operator AeroMobile has expanded its partnerships to include the EE network as its latest roaming partner. The deal means EE's 26 million customers in the UK can now use their mobile phones inflight. AeroMobile now has over 220 agreements with mobile phone operators around the world including O2, Three and Vodafone in the UK. Passengers using any of these mobile operators can now make calls, text or browse online at 30,000ft, simply by connecting to the AeroMobile network. They are billed through their ground-based operator. So far this year, more than 120,000 UK-based passengers have used the AeroMobile service, for 175,000 text messages and 25,000 calls. The AeroMobile service

is active on 150 aircraft across nine airlines including Emirates, SAS and Virgin Atlantic. www.aeromobile.net
