3. TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Your safari starts in earnest this morning when we head out for a two-night stay in a tented camp in Tarangire National Park, one of the best places to see African elephants, tembo. We’re having lunch al fresco in the bush and then it’s off for an eye-opening afternoon game drive in the park. Be sure to bring your cameras as we try to spot zebra, gazelles, buffalo and antelope around lagoons of water and big cats – we’re talking lions, full maned males, females and possibly cubs – under the baobab trees. Dinner is served back at the camp, then gather ‘round the campfire with us to learn a few phrases of Swahili! Your accommodations at Tarangire Safari Lodge promise a comfortable stay, great for animal watching from the privacy of your home away from home. Meals BLD
4. SILALE SWAMP & MAASAI TRADITIONS Wake up to the sounds of the bush this morning and get ready to see more of what Tanzania is famous for. Hop aboard our open-top safari vehicles, six to a car and a window seat for everyone, as we make tracks for remote Silale Swamp; its sea grasses and the promise of thirst-quenching water attract elephants, giraffes, impalas and ostriches. The swamp acts like a giant sponge during the rainy season, soaking up moisture and slowly releasing it during the dry season to provide water for the wildlife you will see here today. Have lunch back at the lodge and learn how the two-footed residents of the bush survive and thrive. Meet members of the local Maasai tribe who look forward to sharing some of their daily customs with you, from making paper out of elephant dung to painting, beading, spear-throwing, bow-and-arrow skills and jumping in a dance! The day ends with a barbecue dinner. Meals BLD
