Alpine Adventure
Get ready to yodel as you climb to the top of snowy Alpine peaks by cogwheel rail, descend by cable car to an adventure park for tobogganing, tubing or rope climbing, take a lake cruise in Lucerne and a train to St. Moritz, hike on a glacier, visit a cheesery, test your skills at archery, a ski race or a bicycle ride, meet an Austrian emperor, go whitewater rafting, enjoy Tyrolean music and games, and ride aboard a horse-drawn carriage to the fairy tale castle of a Bavarian king.
1. ARRIVE ZURICH AND ON TO LUCERNE Tour begins: 4:00 PM, Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern. A transfer is included from Zurich International Airport to your hotel, nestled in the Alps beside snow-capped Mt. Pilatus. Meet your Tauck Director and your fellow adventurers at your grand hotel in the Old Quarter for a walking tour of Lucerne’s cobblestone streets and colorful medieval architecture. 2. A COGWHEEL CLIMB & MT. PILATUS’ SLOPES Take a look at Lucerne’s Lion Memorial, dedicated to the Swiss Guards who lost their lives in the French Revolution, en route to a journey on the world’s steepest cogwheel train. The steam-powered “Pilatus Railway” began regular service in June 1889, 125 years ago; today you’ll ride to the top of Mount Pilatus (nearly 7,000 ft.) on an electrified train, surrounded by 70+ Alpine peaks and five lakes, before descending by aerial cableway to Fraekmuentegg for a choice of activities
