Continuing to meet high standards

Trading for over 90 years, Arthur Flury UK has grown from a simple craftsman’s business into a modern industrial company supplying power distribution components, lightning protection and grounding systems for buildings and overhead line equipment which meet the exacting requirements in railway technology

W

ith a well-developed distribution network and 26 offices around the world,

Flury has become an important partner for all aspects of electrical connection technology. With years of experience, a modern

manufacturing facility and a contemporary quality management System, Flury provides products and services, that combine wide-ranging application know- how with a consistent focus on electro technical connection material. The company works closely with

customers and adapts products to individual requirements. The company’s heritage lies in specialist

and advanced production engineering techniques of cold forming, stamping and chip removal of copper alloys, the decisive factors in the ability to produce light, stable and conductive components to international quality standards. The efficiency of tram, metro and

suburban trains in some of the largest cities in the world, as well as regional and national railway organisations, rely on consistency of quality from Flury’s products and services, and its overhead line products are in use in over 40 countries.

Development The development of proprietary products has always been on Arthur Flury’s ’s agenda.

A modern 3D CAD system provides engineers with support in developing new products to meet individual customer requirements, while taking environmental needs into consideration. Intensive research and development

work provides customers with reliable and cost-effective state-of-the-art products. This has been the backbone of the company’s performance standard.

Production

Arthur Flury has advanced, high- performance machinery at its disposal,

comprising punching presses with capacity up to three hundred tons, CNC machining units, CNC automatic lathes and various special machines for finishing operations. The integrated production planning system guarantees flexible and efficient production control. In use, the finished products are often exposed to extreme use and all products are tested to the highest level during manufacturing and before delivery. In long-term tests, the required reliability and resilience are consistently demonstrated says the company.

Training Many practical training programmes for engineers and skilled workers are provided. These can include on-site training and technical assistance required for the successful installation of overhead line equipment.

Logistics ‘Punctual and accurate delivery is one of the key success factors. With flexible

production techniques and a high bay warehouse of finished goods, piece parts and raw materials, Flury ensures a high service level resulting in high scores being recorded by customers’ supplier monitoring systems,’ says Paul Culnane, managing director.

Culnane continues: ‘A caring and

responsible attitude to the building of the overhead line product range is applied. This range is designed to last and be easy -to-install, as demonstrated by the forked collar sockets and conical couplers used within a catenary system. ‘Quickly installed, these components

provide years of service and have been tested so that the conductor will break before the collet gives way. Perhaps it is not surprising to know that thousands of these important products are in use around the world. ‘Droppers are manufactured in many

different styles and from several different materials, to help ensure smooth operation of the catenary system.
