Spent too many hours at work?

Do you want to get fitter but can’t or won’t go to a gym?

Why not train in the comfort of your own home?

physical preparation for their Track and Field events. The events are as diverse as Discus, Shot and Hammer, Long/Triple Jump and High Jump as well as adrenaline pumping sprints to 400 metres and Hurdles. The various events are enjoyable and easy to access as the club welcomes back seniors who want to train for competitions in their defined age groups. On Tuesday and Thursday Club Nights at 6.30pm the club welcomes beginners or school children wishing to try out these disciplines. Some youngsters decide to compliment existing winter sports like football or rugby with athletics as their summer favourite. The beauty of athletics is generally its simplicity and inexpensive access. To this end we have coaches working by age groups to give assistance across disciplines.

For those who have a ‘training age’ of more than five years the simple equation which works well is regular hard work, resilience when setbacks arise and building good technical skills by accessing information from the coaching teams. The teams are coaxed along by the Nationally Qualified Athletics Development Officer Andrew Winnie who has over 10 years of work invested with Jersey Spartan AC.

As athletes often show rapid progress through their school lives they quickly understand the relationship with hard work

and are often seen practicing their skills at the track in their spare time. For the devoted there are plenty of

opportunities for athletes to join club groups on supervised trips to venues in the UK in high quality competitions. The pinnacle for many is the County Championships in May but other competitions like the school and inter insular events also give a great guide to the progress of younger competitors. Those who are successful at County level will compete for Hampshire in the Inter County competitions and the club send groups to regional Southern Counties events. These athletes may grow in confidence and stature as the challenge of high level events brings out the best and helps them to prepare.

This year has been a satisfying one for the whole club with a range of achievements both for teams and Individuals. The club celebrates the

achievements of all and has recently held presentations for seniors and juniors with all agreeing that the club has built sound foundations for future athletic success at Club, County, Regional, National and even International level where the club has many representatives of which the Island can be proud.
