Fire and brimstone

In the heart of St Peter you will find something that is becoming scarce in the 21st century. A family run specialist business based on knowledge and expertise handed down through the generations, where word of mouth and reputation are relied upon to attract satisfied customers.

After 30 years experience as a building contractor, Les Vibert and his wife Jean established the company, Les having installed his first fireplace in 1965. The company is run today by their daughter Julie. She and her husband Philip Rabet, a plumbing and heating engineer, are registered solid fuel engineers, approved as members of the Heating Equipment Testing Approvals Scheme (HETAS), an organisation recognised by the States of Jersey Planning and Environment Department, which promotes safety and efficiency in the solid fuel, wood and biomass heating industry.

VLJ offers a comprehensive range of fireplaces, stoves and fireside accessories backed by a personal, friendly service and a wealth of knowledge to help customers make an informed

choice when creating this focal point in their home. The after sales service includes installation, maintenance, servicing and chimney sweeping as well as the supply of kiln dried hardwood logs and kindling to bring warmth to the heart of a home throughout the winter months.

The 1000sq. ft. of dedicated fireplace and stove displays covers everything from log baskets to tailor-made natural stone fireplaces, made to measure hardwood mantels electric fires, flues and chimneys, Ecofans and spares. VLJ is also the only local authorized stockist for the world renowned range of Clearview Stoves and customers are invited to view the range on display and enjoy the benefits of a live burning appliance,

Many new builds are being constructed with ornamental chimneys but without a flue or working fireplace, which has resulted in new homeowners being without a focal point in their home. In these situations VLJ are regularly installing twin wall flue systems and prefabricated chimneys to bring the hearth back into the heart of the family home.

With environmental issues becoming more of a

consideration and the impact energy consumption is having on the environment, wood is regarded as the renewable and sustainable fuel for the future. Stoves run at around 80% efficiency, compared to open fires at under 20%, and VLJ’s customers can be sure that they are efficiently and effectively heating their homes whilst remaining sympathetic to environmental issues for future generations. That’s why VLJ has listened to customers and acted on the feedback and are now satisfying demand by supplying kiln dried and seasoned hardwood logs from managed sustainable forests.
