Great Food with no fuss...

coaches are continually updated with changes in the modern game with many of

them going away to the mainland to increase their own knowledge at courses arranged by the LTA.

This has lead to all three clubs and their coaches having a robust programme of visiting local schools and providing help to the PE teachers to encourage them to promote tennis and the merits of joining a club. In most cases the coaches provide term time lessons within the school curriculum which is becoming very popular and a good source of potential new members.

Besides the club structure there is an over-arching body that looks after tennis across the Island which is essential to the well being of the game. Their remit is to represent tennis on various organisations and produce a year long programme that members of all of the clubs can see.

The Island is very fortunate to be able to enter teams in such prestigious events like the Commonwealth Games, Island Games, Jeux des Iles and the Tournoi as well as taking part in all ages of Inter Insular events. A committee is elected by all of the clubs and sets out the criteria and makes sure that the selection of players and teams is fair.

Due to the size of Jersey the LTA does not view us as a

County team and for us to compete in all of the national events from Under 8’s through to Summer and Winter County events (14 events in all including male and female) means that we have to team up with Guernsey, okay as the Channel Islands. We meet with our colleagues in Guernsey to pick the best representative team possible to take on different counties across the UK.

So there is a lot going on with tennis and whether you just want to play tennis as a sociable game or whether you wish to play for the Island or the Channel Islands or even take up coaching as a profession there will always be a warm welcome. Visit any of our three clubs here in the Island if you wish to find out more about the game or if you want to join a club then please do not hesitate to contact me either by e-mail or by phone.
