beating Estonia, Germany, Gibraltar, Belgium and a Netherlands X1 with Gemma being voted ‘Player of the Tournament’. The Girl’s and Women’s cricket is now sponsored by The One Foundation.

There have also been various inter insular age group matches and Under 11s and 12s groups successful trips to Guernsey and the UK. We hosted 9 visiting junior schools and clubs during the season which provided many opportunities for the younger age groups and, of course, the annual Standard Bank Festival involving 5 county teams and Jersey’s Under 17s playing a week’s competitive cricket.

Representative International cricket this year included the European Division I Under 15 tournament where Jersey tied with the eventual winners, Holland and beat Guernsey, the U19 Challenge series against a strong squad from Holland, a successful Under 17 series against Scotland winning two matches and a very wet few days in Dublin attempting to play an Under 17 series against Ireland.

The above bodes well for the future of the summer sport, and an idea of the level that these youngsters can aspire to, was illustrated by the quite fantastic performance of the island XI in the Inter Insular against old rivals Guernsey at the end of the season.

Following a humbling defeat in 2011, inspirational coach Craig Hogan, could not have hoped for more from the young, fit and talented team that he put out this year to banish those memories. The victory also showed the value of the squad having played so many matches during the season.

Guernsey were simply outplayed, out- thought, out-fielded, batted and bowled at Grainville in early September. Debutants Rob McBey, and Nat Watkins performed superbly, and Anthony Kay, “Chuggy” Perchard, and man-of-the match, Ben Stevens restricted Guernsey to a paltry 175 all out. Stevens and Watkins batted sensibly, and then with increasing freedom as each ended up on 73 not out, easing Jersey to a thumping 9 wicket win with 5 overs in hand.

This young, fit and talented squad will have to watch their backs though. For the first time in memory, the even younger age-group squads are pressurizing the established squad, all of whom can see the incredible opportunities to travel the world, playing the sport they love. In 2013 Jersey Cricket can

look forward to competing again in the European Under 15 Division 1 tournament as well as two Challenge Series for the Under 17s and the Under 19 European Division 1 tournament which is a World Cup qualifier.

The Senior squad will be looking to perform well in the European Division 1 T20 tournament involving 12 teams in addition to the World Cricket League Division 6 tournament.

The future for Jersey Cricket is bright indeed.
