OCTOBER TO DECEMBER As we move into the fourth quarter, Flair will launch Tom and Jerry product in the UK. Warner Bros. Consumer Products has an ambitious plan for the classic brand, which includes a new animated series – The Tom and Jerry Show– launching in 2013. This quarter also sees the launch of the second part in The Hobbit Trilogy– The Desolation of Smaug– in the cinema, with WBCP building the licensing programme consistently throughout the year. The Beanocelebrates its 75th anniversary in 2013, and Start Licensing has licensed Golden Bear to create a range of toys based on Dennis and Gnasher. There will be new episodes screened on CBBC; the series has proved to be one of the most popular on the channel. Golden Bear joins existing licensees including Gibsons for puzzles and Flair for The Beano Comic Maker Kit. “The Beanocelebrates its 75th anniversary in 2013 and is firmly established as a British cultural icon,” explains Ian Downes, MD of Start Licensing. “The characters are recognised and have cross generational appeal. will return to London’s Olympia in October, following a stellar show in 2012, which was the biggest and best attended in its history. Over the three days, 6,875 executives walked through the doors – 1,265 more
than in 2011. Combined visitor and exhibitor attendance reached 9,108. Last year also saw a 14 per cent increase in retail attendance, with execs from outlets including Avon, Boots, Asda, Carrefour, Debenhams, Tesco, John Lewis, New Look, Top Shop, Sainsbury’s and Marks & Spencer. Overseas visitors were also up, with 17 per cent more European attendees.
