SHOW GUIDE TOMY

2012 saw something of a transformation for Tomy. The firm has secured a number of master toy licences, as well as continuing to build up its nursery lines and boys offerings. Looking at the boys line-up first, and Battroborg has already notched up

significant success in Japan – selling 10,000 units during its launch weekend. The mini battling cyborg robots bring motion and action to life. Shake and punch with the motion controllers, fighting against up to 20 robotic opponents at once. There’s also a battling arena set available. A new Hypercity

environment is launching for Tomica. Tomy says that the rescue-themed boys range is the only system to combine trains, vehicles, construction and role-play. New trigger tech technology sees the seamless action system where vehicles transform without a child even having to touch them. Tomy bolstered its licensed portfolio last year, securing the Pokémon master toy licence for five years. The firm will be first to market themed toys based on the hotly tipped video game sequels, Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2. Sculptured figures, with solid bodies and extreme levels of authenticity, are compatible with all play-sets encouraging repeat purchase.

TRAIN-TASTIC

Chuggington has been boosted with a new track system which allows tracks to be stacked as high as possible, while pre-school series Dinosaur Train – for which Tomy is the master toy partner – will launch at retail in 2013.

More new lines are being added to Tomy’s infant developmental, bath and creative play range in 2013. Pre-school collection Play to Learn seeks to inspire playtime with toys for different times of the day. Mr Owl Puzzle Blocks encourage quiet play, while hero TV line, Neil the Seal, gets little ones moving. Meanwhile, Surfin’ Beaver and Turtle Tots bolster the Aqua Fun line. Aquadoodle, Tomy’s best selling mess-free drawing range, is celebrating its tenth birthday in 2013. The arts and crafts line is due to expand with a number of new products throughout the year to complement existing lines. Licences include Peppa Pig and a Hello Kitty Travel Drawing Bag. Tomy will also be stepping up its Disney’s Winnie the Pooh range. For bedtime routines, Tomy has everything from bath toys to a fabric Pooh & Friends Soft Discovery Book, a Dream Clouds cot mobile, Starry Dreams Lightshow and Cuddle n Glow Pooh. For older tots, Bounce Bounce Tigger is due to arrive in the autumn. Finally, Lamaze will enter

new categories in 2013 – nightlight, mobiles and feeding cups are just some of the lines being launched, alongside new soft stage- based developmental toys.

JOHN DEERE 2013 will also see a new range of items under

the John Deere banner, including fresh characters and play-sets. The Big Scoop Large Tractor heads up the new Sandbox portfolio, and, with all terrain capability, the 42921 John Deere Monster Treads RC Tractor is another strong addition. The Big Farm range

welcomes the first ever JCB item – the JCB Loadall. The Britains Farm Toys collection increases with New Holland T6 and T7 tractors, John Deere 6R tractors and a JCB Loadall joining the range in 1:32 scale.
