theibcdaily New KVM extenders
Gefen By Carolyn Giardina
Three new KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) extenders over IP are on display at Gefen’s IBC stand.
Designed for use in post
production, each model supports the connection of sender and receiver units feeding through the Ethernet connection, allowing up to 200 metres of signal
extension: 100 metres on the sender side and 100 metres on the receiver side using Cat5 cable. All three KVM extenders supply
connections for audio, video, USB, RS-232 and IR in addition to DVI, HDMI or VGA. For each KVM system, the receiver unit supplies two additional Ethernet connections to support additional devices. A total of 16 sender and receiver pairs
can be connected in one system.
The HD KVM over IP delivers HDMI at 1080p full HD with 3D pass-through. Additional peripherals such as USB, audio, RS-232 and IR remote are available.
The DVI KVM over IP sends
high resolution DVI at 1920x1200 with USB, stereo audio, RS-232 and IR remote control up to 200 meters using a sender/receiver system.
ProductionFor archives with StrongBox
Crossroads Systems By Monica Heck
The Crossroads’ StrongBox LTFS solution for archive from IBC exhibitor Crossroads Systems has been chosen by ProductionFor, a Texas- based video production and post production company, to
create a reliable and low-cost archive of its digital files. StrongBox is a non-
proprietary, file-based and fully portable storage solution for long-term data retention. The enterprise- level solution is the first to leverage Linear Tape File System (LTFS) technology, combining the scalability of tape with the speed and
accessibility of disk. ProductionFor is using
StrongBox with the HP MSL2024 tape library and 2 LTO 5 tape drives to archive their video projects. Using Disk Order application in a completely Mac environment, over an NFS mount, ProductionFor archives tiered folders called ‘projects’ in StrongBox for

long-term data protection. Most projects are 200GB to 1TB in size and comprise of numerous files. While they are archiving and reading multiple folders at one time, ProductionFor is also successfully utilising StrongBox’s dual copy policy to meet data protection needs. “We have lots of large files and we’re always adding things to them – so we’re creating elements that add

up to a lot of storage,” said Chris Blankenship at ProductionFor. “As new technology emerges, the need for space gets bigger. There is a need for a reliable way to archive all of these files. We’ve been really pleased with our investment in StrongBox because it allows us to move large amounts of data off of our RAID into an archive system that’s always online.” 9.A15
Range of multiviewers extended with OB and rental unit
Avitech International By Monica Heck
The Rainier 3G Plus is the newest addition to the Avitech family of
multiviewers, aimed at OB vans, broadcast trucks and rental pro AV applications. A 1RU chassis houses 16 3G/HD/SD-SDI/CV inputs on four card modules, as well as four HDMI and 3G-SDI outputs. All 16 sources can be displayed on a single screen with duplication on four outputs, on four quad displays, or any combination of multiples of fours on duplicate outputs. The 3G Plus features a front LCD control display panel for easy configuration. Using this LCD control panel, the user can key in labels and select presets without the extra hassle of connecting to a computer.
The 3G Plus runs on a dual DC power connection with redundancy to avoid power failure. All four video processing printed circuit board assemblies and the control module are field serviceable without removing the chassis from the equipment rack. 10.F26
