theibcdaily Freeing up bandwidth

Thomson Video By Anne Morris

A number of new products are being showcased at IBC2012 by digital TV broadcasting specialist Thomson Video Networks.

Thomson Video Networks

has introduced Flextream 2.0, which the company says is the industry’s first statistical multiplexing technology to achieve greater efficiency by integrating ancillary services into the multiplexing pool.

The company says Flextream

2.0 frees up bandwidth provisioned for the processing of service components such as audio, teletext, subtitling, and closed captioning, allowing it to be reallocated to improve video quality. With the new product,

users of Thomson Video Networks’ ViBE encoders have the capability to activate new Flextream mechanisms to boost overall statistical multiplexing system performance and efficiency while simplifying operations through easier configuration and monitoring. Other launches include a quad-channel version of the ViBE EM4000 HD encoder and the NetProcessor 9030/40, which the company claims is the first multiplexer/scrambler to integrate a DVT-T2 MI reverse gateway. 14.A10

Storage in the cloud

XOR Media By Carolyn Giardina

XOR Media, the newly independent company formerly the broadcast group of SeaChange, is showcasing its open cloud-capable Universal MediaLibrary storage system with

simultaneous NAS and SAN access. This means that files can be accessed over Fibre Channel, iSCSI, CIFS, NFS, and FTP without reconfigurations or gateways. The UML T-series is the enterprise-level model with storage starting from 72TB up to 216TB in 5RU storage matrix. It can scale up to 144PB in a cloud. Its performance starts from 17,000Gbps per UML and scales up to 34,000Gbps in a cloud. The UML E-series is a compact storage system that offers up to 48TB in 3RU chassis. The UML integrates with the MXF server to create a collaborative production environment with Apple Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, and Adobe Premiere Pro.

The XOR MediaServer 1200 is a standalone, broadcast-quality video server that offers multi- standard, multichannel, and multiformat

TM

operations. It is a high- density edge video server for channel ingest and playout featuring ‘Stream-through,’ multi- format back-to-back playback on a single output port, and built-in storage of up to 16TB HDD or 4.8TB SSD in a 3RU footprint. 6.C29
