2GHz microLite HD transmitter launches

Integrated Microwave Technologies

By Ian McMurray

The RF Central 2GHz microLite HD transmitter from Integrated Microwave Technologies has received its official introduction to the European market at IBC. The camera-mountable transmitter features SD/HD encoding capabilities in a miniature transmit solution package and has, says the company, been specially

designed to address both domestic and international broadcasting band requirements within a single unit. It now includes coverage from 1.9 to 2.5GHz and delivers up to 200mW from a package of less than 12 cubic inches. Developed for a new generation of HD (SDI) capable compact cameras, the transmitter supports video and embedded audio transmission. The unit’s size makes it, claims the company, ideal for broadcast ENG operations.

Multiscreen and OTT

Appear TV By Ian McMurray

Demonstrations of the com- pany’s new multiscreen & OTT solutions, including its range of encoding and transcoding solutions, are the focus of Appear TV’s IBC stand. Features of the Appear TV multiscreen/OTT offering include a high density hard- ware-based solution for GOP aligned linear adaptive streaming; solution support for all devices including HLS, Silverlight, MPEG DASH, HDS and so on; a wide range of supported

resolutions and profiles; and compatibility with all input, processing and out- put modules.

Appear TV is also demon- strating its DVB-T/T2 end-to- end solutions. Being designed in house, accord- ing to the company, removes the integration issues of the multi-vendor approach to DVB-T/T2 infrastructure. Appear TV says that it pro- vides all the elements of the DVB-T/T2 headend and transmitter distribution archi- tecture in its high density chassis platforms. Together with its intuitive manage- ment interface, these highly modular solutions are said to

The 2-GHz microLite HD may be camera mounted via a hot shoe or paired with Litepanels’ camera-mounted lighting solutions. It features H.264 SD and HD encoding capabilities and operates in the standard 2k DVB-T COFDM mode. The H.264 video encoder supports the main profile of the H.264 standard, providing a 30% bit- rate reduction or video quality improvement – compared to encoders that only support the H.264 baseline profile, notes the company. 1.D40

be very attractive from an operational point of view, allowing customers to max- imise their choice of content sources, distribution back- bone interface and function- ality throughout the terrestri- al broadcast network. The Appear TV DVB-T/T2

terrestrial solutions being demonstrated at IBC include SFN/MFN capability with Multiple PLP support for regional programme insertion; advanced T/T2 modulation, with two fully agile carriers per module; MIP Insertion for DVB-T and SFN T2 gateway mod- ules which support T2MI insertion; and options for DVB-T/T2 demodulators and SFN synchronisation by GPS or 10pps clock. 1.C61

The 2GHz microLite HD is camera-mountable vuMedia is extended

Visual Unity By Heather McLean

Enhancements to Visual Unity’s vuMedia framework include an easy to use version of the online video platform, enhanced mobile features and support for 4k streaming. vuMedia is an integrated content management and delivery platform that allows broadcasters and content owners to control how their brand and assets are managed, delivered and monetised in the multiscreen environment. Visual Unity stated that with vuMedia powering their multiscreen offering, broadcasters are able to reach

new audiences across the full range of connected devices, plus increase advertising bandwidth by 15% to 20%. Tomas Petru, CEO of Visual

Unity, said: “One programme type that has particularly benefited from the power of vuMedia is sport, a genre where audiences are hungry for content that can be delivered directly to their mobiles, PCs and tablets. National broadcaster Czech TV, for example, which uses our vuMedia platform for its web-based iVysilani service, achieved a record of 80,000 online viewers during the Euro 2012 quarter final game between Portugal and the Czech Republic.” 3.B60
