MADE IN ITALY
expect, the highest standards for environmental protection and energy saving. Operation via a touch-panel PC control unit opens, says Raoul Bontempi, “totally new perspectives regarding plant visualisation, process optimisation and process documentation.”
While Bontempi VIBO remains strongly committed to the
production of high-grade stainless steel fasteners one of the driving forces has been to establish itself clearly, and with similar credentials, in the carbon steel fastener sector. Results speak for themselves, and with annual production in excess of 20,000 tonnes from the three factories, it is significant that the emphasis has shifted to the extent that carbon steel now represents around three quarter of output. For Raoul Bontempi, there are two absolutely critical goals
in everything the group does. “Quality is our main goal, we are committed to being a bright star in the market for quality in both standard products and for special parts made to customer drawings – especially for the automotive and industrial sectors”. He recognises, though, that the ultimate measure of success is
from the customer. “Customer satisfaction is our other important goal, to improve the relationship with all our customers, ensuring that we meet all of their quality expectations - for the product and for logistics and technical support. We encourage all our customers to audit our operations so we can be fully assessed for their quality systems and they can have first hand confidence in our capabilities. We also value their feedback in identifying possible areas of further potential improvement.”
Commitment to quality assurance is also highly visible in
the form of a new, modern equipped, laboratory capable of carrying out “the most stringent tests required by the market”. This investment included integrating Bontempi VIBO’s capacity to conduct micro-hardness tests, so that it can now provide hardening and tempering documentation for each production batch. Inbound materials are tightly controlled and the company has also carried out strict audits on its surface finishing contractors. Bontempi VIBO also inspects systematically, using both visual and automatic systems, to minimise the risk of head cracking in Grade 12.9 hexagon socket products. The quality system is now able to issue on customer request
several types of document: PPAP Lev. III, ISIR, IMDS, 3.1 with proof-load system and PPM certificate commitment. Equally critical to the final customer is ensuring they receive
the correct type and quantity of parts. As well as the controls integrated to the logistic system Bontempi VIBO has invested in a new robot packaging line at Rodengo Saiano that minimises the risk of incorrect box quantities as well as reducing packaging time and ensuring correct handling. All of this technology, of course, counts for naught unless
the calibre of the people involved in its operation are equal to its capabilities. That is the responsibility of Alessandro Galletta, who joined Bontempi VIBO in 2000, and in January 2011 was appointed as the company’s quality manager. For Raoul Bontempi it is simple: “Without the right people in the right places, even if you have the very best quality in machines, you cannot do anything.” Just as importantly, Bontempi VIBO’s management believes a tight connection between the sales and quality departments is key to achieving outstanding levels of customer satisfaction. As a result Mr Galletta works “side by side” every day with the group’s sales manager, Vittoriano Calomeni, who says: “We believe it is essential to have a ‘Task Force’ that can find a solution for all customer needs, in order to give the best product, at the best price, with the best quality and with fixed delivery times”. Bontempi VIBO has sustained an unprecedented programme
of investment over recent years, worth tens of millions of euros, and plans to continue at similar levels for several years to come. In challenging economic conditions that is a remarkable commitment on the part of the Bontempi family.
