Taiwan fastener exports hit record high in 2011
Although Taiwanese fastener exports softened in the second half of 2011, the full year export volume and value both hit record highs, Fastener World reports.
full year fastener exports amounted to 1.422 million tonnes, outpacing the previous record of 1.41 million tonnes in 2004 and up 11.14% on 2010, the second consecutive year on year increase. The export value reached US$3.973 billion (3.233 billion euros), showing a 23.61% increase over 2010, which was the highest growth in Taiwanese export history. The average export price was US$2.794/kg, up 11.22% over 2010.
T
he main reason for the growth was that China’s fastener exports to Europe were blocked by EU anti- dumping measures, and European fastener orders were substantially redirected to Taiwan. Thus, Taiwan’s 2011
As exports to Europe grew, the European market outstripped
the United States as Taiwan’s largest fastener export destination in 2011. Generally, export orders for Taiwanese fasteners dropped
in the second half of 2011. However, 2011 full year exports still substantially grew and the overall export rate was close to 95%. Orders for small screws showed a dropping trend from April 2011 while orders for automotive fasteners presented the best performance. Many automotive fastener companies saw strong order patterns in the first half of 2011 but a downtrend during the second half.
