TAPES + ADHESIVES New adhesive spells end for cracking mattresses

Adhesive specialists KMS Adhesives has developed and gained accreditation for a new generation of hot melt adhesive, specifically for mattress manufacturers.

T he new hot melt Intact® H906 can be used in all types of existing hot melt systems and has been specially developed

for manufacturers who require a superior pocket sprung mattress assembly. KMS Adhesives points out that the unique adhesive has exceptional bonding properties to non-woven materials, PU foam and textiles. It has the correct open and setting time for automatic pocket spring assembly machinery and melts easily in the glue tank. In addition, unlike standard hot melts, Intact®

H906 remains highly flexible which helps prevent the cracking noise and poor

adhesion that is commonplace with inferior grades of hot melt glue, such as those designed for use in packaging that have been traditionally used in pocket sprung manufacture. Intact®

adhesives and using a packaging hot melt for the pocket sprung within mattresses was not consistent with our aim of providing the very highest quality. As such, we are proud to be launching Intact®

way that we make mattresses in the UK, we are offering a free supervised trial. Intact® production line without the need to change any equipment to ensure that production continues.”

See the light with UV curing adhesives

Techsil has partnered with UV specialist Honle and its subsidiary company - Panacol to become principle distributor of Honle’s UV curing equipment, and Panacol’s UV and LED curing adhesives, to markets in the UK and Ireland.

Techsil highlights that it is representing four adhesive ranges

from Panacol: Vitralit®

- UV/visible light-curing adhesives Available in various viscosities these are single component epoxies

and acrylates and are suitable for a variety of application methods. After UV-curing cross linked polymers are obtained with high transparent bonding line for glass, PC, PMMA and in combination with metals. They are suitable for manual and automatic high volume production.

Elecolit®

- Electrically and thermally conductive adhesives They are 1 and 2 part epoxies that can cure with UV, at room

temperature and/or with heat. Flame retardant properties, lead and solvent free, high thermal stability and no bleeding. Typically used for die bonding, flip-chip, aerial contacting, and bonding of heat sinks and power modules. Often used in highly automated processes within electronics production.

Cyanolit® - Instant adhesives Available in viscosities from watery to thixotropic gels.

Fast curing at room temperature with humidity in thin films. Applicable for coloured thermoplasts with excellent adhesion on ABS, PVC, polycarbonate, styurol, acryl for rubber components such as latex, EPDM or in combination with metals.

These ranges of UV curing adhesives can be used with a wide

variety of substrates such as plastics, glass, and metals and can be used in many sectors such as electronics, medical equipment, glass bonding and optics.

ISO-Chemie first to seal environmental products’ award

ISO-Chemie, a producer of impregnated foam sealants, specialising in the manufacturer of foam products from polyethylene (EPE), polypropylene (EPP) and polyurethane (PUR), says that it has become the first foam sealing tape manufacturer in the world to gain the Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) standard in accordance with ISO 14025 and prEN 15804.

T

he move follows testing and evaluation of ISO Chemie’s polyurethane and polyethylene foam tapes at the Rosenheim test centre in Germany, which confirmed that the company’s products do not have any negative

influences on the environment, particularly during use. The EPD examination covered the production, use and post

application of the sealing tapes manufactured in the ISO-Chemie GmbH production plant in Aalen. Evaluation was based on eco-balances in which the effects

on the environment are calculated through material and energy flows and covered the full ‘cradle-to-grave’ life cycle of the tapes - from raw material extraction through production and

certification reflected the company’s strong commitment to providing low carbon products to protect the environment. “We are the first global supplier of foam tapes that we

know of to receive this certification, reinforcing our very strong environmental credentials. The aim is to help our customers reduce their own carbon footprint as reductions are embedded in the products we make for them.” He adds: “Certification will also add towards ensuring

compliance with building regulations which state that from 2016 all new homes will need to meet stringent carbon neutral standards.”

Structalit® - Structural adhesives

Heat curable two-part adhesives with long pot life. High peeling and shear strengths, excellent chemical protection and polishable for optical applications.

H906 is already used by leading mattress manufacturers who have found that not only does it provide a stronger bond; it has also improved the sound of the mattress, eliminating the cracking noise associated with other hot melts. Intact®

H906 has

passed the manufacturers tests when rolling the mattress for packing, with the adhesive bond remaining strong and flexible. Fred Dunn, business development manager at KMS Adhesives, said: “At KMS Adhesives, we only manufacture the best quality

H906. We are so confident that this will revolutionise the H906 can be easily demonstrated on any
