INSIGHT A little extra goes a long way
National salesmanager (Jaton), TonyWilliams, discusses the latest service sourcing tool fromOwlett-Jaton.
A
s a leading provider in the fasteners and fixings market offering a range of more than 30,000 fasteners, fixings and associated products to the wholesaler and merchant trade, it is crucial that we continuously
evaluate and evolve our product and service offering to provide that little bit extra. We are already recognised as the number one choice for
quality, service and value within the industrial fasteners market, and as the biggest stockholder in the industry. Our focus is on convenience and consistency and, most
importantly, a commitment to quality. We provide a ‘shopping basket’ approach where suppliers can pick and choose from high quality products, in the knowledge that we research and source only the very best. To many customers, Owlett-Jaton has become an extension of their stock room. Our 150,000 square foot warehouse stocks all of the essentials, which enables us to offer many industry sectors a ‘one stop shop’. In the last 12 months alone we have added to our growing
portfolio the Draper line of hand tools and accessories, plus an extended range of personal protective equipment (PPE) and workwear. This is part of our growing commitment to providing a diverse range of high quality, cost-effective products for customers to meet more of their purchasing needs from one source; consistently saving them time and, in turn, money.
Something extra As part of our commitment to
providing that little bit extra, we have launched an exclusive service for customers giving them even greater access to our products and services. Called ‘OJ-Extra’ the scheme is designed to offer customers even more than before; providing access to an extended range of industrial fasteners sourced from mainland Europe, with a quick turnaround and a low minimum order value. The introduction of OJ- Extra means we can pass on additional benefits to customers; from sourcing specialist products that they
wouldn’t be able to get ‘off the shelf,’ to using our buying power to get hold of stock quickly and easily – with minimal order restrictions. We can source any DIN-specified industrial fasteners – ferrous and non-ferrous metal, plastic and nylon – in diameters 1mm - 110mm and lengths 2mm - 3,000mm, in all material grades,

from across Europe, typically within seven days. We can also provide test certification if required. It’s a simple and effective way for customers to meet their fastener needs quickly and cost effectively. Our aim is to provide any product at any time and, since
the launch of OJ-Extra earlier this year, the response from customers has been fantastic. We have been tasked with many interesting requests that are far from the norm and span the spectrum of options available; from micro screws for the telecommunications industry to extra-large fasteners for very specific industrial applications. As the minimum order spend is just £50, we can source niche
products like this very easily and quickly, either as a ‘one off’ or as part of a more regular order programme. We regularly receive requests for one specialist item only, as well as requests for up to two million items! Other enquiries have specified materials including aluminium and phosphorous bronze, with imperial as well as metric threads.
About Owlett-Jaton As well as an ever-expanding, comprehensive portfolio the
Owlett-Jaton service promise means that stock is available via next day delivery with no minimum order charges accounting for the majority of business. Another increasingly popular way to access and order our
products is OJ Trade - an online trading portal where customers and visitors can view the entire product range. Customers can register to check stock availability and prices and can place orders 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The ‘real time’ functionality of the site also means product enquiries and selling prices can be calculated instantly. Other features include the ability to store and review enquiries for future reference, access to order, invoice, and credit details that can be viewed online or printed off, and a ‘purchase manager’ facility to store details of regularly purchased products. Owlett-Jaton bases are strategically placed across the UK,
from the headquarters in Stone (Staffordshire), to Dartford, Elland, Milton Keynes, and Swindon, meaning we can provide next day delivery to any part of the country.
