Gentiana The mere mention of the name ‘Gentian’ con- jures up images of shades of blue. They're won- derful additions to the rock garden and flower border or intermingled with fall-blooming cro- cus and colchicum. Plant them in evenly moist, rich soil that's well-drained. In hot climates, locate them out of hot afternoon sun. Division is seldom needed.

Geranium (Cranesbill) Hardy perennial geraniums or cranesbills are long-lived, pest resistant and come in a won- derful array of colors, types and sizes. They are easy to grow, their only requirements being moist, well-drained soil. Most benefit from a good shearing after initial flowering to encour- age new foliage and rebloom.
