Baptisia (Wild Indigo) For large colorful accents in the late spring garden, consider these long-lived, shrub-sized perennials. Their profuse, elongated fl ower spikes are held above mounds of thick foliage. Black, pea-like seed pods are often used in dried arrangements. Very resiliant and drought tolerant once established. Not fussy as to soil type and the plants seldom need dividing.

BAPTISIA PRAIRIEBLUES™ SERIES: These baptisias introduced by Dr. Jim Ault of

the Chicago Botanic Garden have proven to be especially fl oriferous and long-blooming. Mature clumps often yield up to 100 or more fl owering stems. The stems are strong and up- right. They make great, long-lasting cutfl ow- ers, adding vertical interest to arrangements. We especially like to combine them in arrange- ments with peonies, Siberian iris and other late spring bloomers.
