Aconitum (Monkshood) Tall, spiky plants bear hooded flowers held along long stems. Dark green foliage is deep- ly divided. This long-blooming garden plant prefers rich, moist soil. Avoid hot locations and burning sun. Deadhead to lateral buds and keep fertilized for second flowering. A mulch is beneficial for moisture retention. Once established, leave plants undisturbed. Tall varieties may require some staking. NOTE: Most parts of the plant are toxic if eaten. When pruning or handling, do not get juice from the plant into your mouth or open wounds. Wash hands immediately after cutting back plants.
