CARROTS

Carrots adapt to a variety of soils, but do best in loose, rich soil with plenty of sun. Plant early and use successive sowings for a continuing fresh supply. Seed is slow to germinate so plant with a crop like radish to mark rows. Keep tops of roots covered so light does not turn them green, and keep evenly watered to pre- vent splitting. Carrot seed varies in size and usually averages between 15,000 and 22,000 seeds per ounce. A packet contains a minimum of 750 seeds unless noted and plants a 20 to 25 foot row – ¼ oz. about 100 feet.
