Heritage River Birch®


22108–(Betula nigra ‘Heritage’)–Zones 4-8–(P.P.4409)–A genetically supe- rior river birch. Has creamy-white peeling bark and leaves that are pale green in spring, deep green in sum- mer and golden in fall. It’s strong, fast-growing, adapts well to wet and dry locations as well as heat and cold, is tolerant to all but the most alkaline soils and has proved to be immune to the bronze birch borer. Mature trees develop a dense canopy with slightly pendulous branches. Attains a height of 40 to 50 feet. Spectacular in clumps of 3 to 5 trees.

WHITESPIRE BIRCH Whitespire Birch


(Betula populifolia ‘Whitespire’)–Zones 3-8 A strain of white birch from the UW- Madison which has proven to be highly resistant to the bronze birch borer. The original trees have survived over 30 years without any sign of birch borer. Very fast growing, reaching a height of 30 to 40 feet with an attractive pyramidal form, pure white bark, and glossy, dark green leaves. It has withstood temperatures ranging from 100° to -30℉, and is adaptable to a wide range of soil types. For a birch clump, plant 3 to 5 trees in a group. Bareroot trees. ❍ ◗

The “Little Girl” group of hybrid magnolias was developed in the mid-fi fties at the U.S. National Arboretum. Because they are later blooming than many magnolias, they avoid the hazards of bud damage from late spring frosts. Dark green leaves are somewhat leathery in appearance, turning yellow in fall.
