Page 95 Low Profile Encoders from Heidenhain

Schaumburg, IL — Heidenhain Corporation has introduced new low- profile incremental rotary encoders with block commutation tracks, espe- cially suitable for use in small- dimensioned servo motors. These new rotary encoders in the compa- ny’s 1000 and 1100 series come equipped with an industry-standard 35mm housing diameter, and report- edly offer high quality speed control

New from Lumex: Compact RGB LED

Palatine, IL — Lumex has launched its surface mounted QuasarBrite 0404 RGB LED. The new LED’s com- pact 1.00mm x 1.00mm x 0.25mm package size is the smallest RGB LED package available today and is especially well suited for multicolor LED indicator applications in restricted spaces. The optimized, fully-automated production process used to manufacture the Quasar - Brite 0404 RGB LED also generates up to 25 percent cost savings com- pared to alternative 0404 RGB LED technologies.

themselves not only by their short overall length but also by their cut- ting-edge opto-ASIC based photoelec- tric scanning with integrated inter- polation. Because of their electrical output at TTL levels with differential signals, these encoders can be con- nected to almost all standard subse- quent electronics for control of digi- tally controlled servo motors — up to edge lengths of 40 and 55mm — and are useful in various applications in the automation industry. As an example, the 1023 encoder has an overall length of 35.2mm max

and an IP 64 rating, making it espe- cially useful in hazardous environ- ments; the company’s 1123 encoder has an overall length of 30.3mm max and an IP 0 for general use. Both encoders have mounted

stator couplings and blind hollow shafts. Choice of appropriate commu- tation signals is available — the amount depending on the number of poles of the motor to be controlled. Contact: Heidenhain Corp., 333

New full color LED indicator. According to the company, the

new LED combines excellent visual performance, low energy require- ments and compact size making the technology ideally suited for multicol- or LED indicator applications, which include: communications equipment — servers, networks, gateways, head- sets, phone equipment, handheld communication devices; personal elec- tronics — cell phone indicators, back- lights for display screens and key- pads; portable medical devices pulse oximeters, defibrillators, glucometers; backlighting for LCDs, switches, deco- rative lighting. According to the company, the

new RGB LEDs provide excellent visual performance with bright col- ors and a 120° viewing angle. Low energy consumption simplifies heat dissipation as the QuasarBrite RGB LED provides reliable performance at low current outputs (30/25/10mA respectively for R/G/B). The LEDs also provide several

opportunities for cost and real estate savings. The use of a single 0404 can result in up to a 30 percent cost sav- ings as well as a 70 percent real estate savings compared to the use of individual red, green and blue pack- ages. Replacing three parts with a single part number also simplifies ordering and maintenance processes. Contact: Lumex Inc., 290 E.
