April, 2011 XJTAG Now Includes Free Layout Viewer

Cambridge, UK — XJTAG has released XJTAG version 2.5, which now includes a free layout viewer. The XJTAG Layout Viewer has been designed to improve productivity by allowing engineers to quickly visual- ize the exact location of faults. The Layout Viewer works in con- junction with XJDeveloper and XJRunner. XJDeveloper allows engi- neers to quickly and easily set up and run tests on a circuit and create and customize tests to their requirements. XJRunner is a specialized run- time environment for testing, includes a range of special features for debug- ging, testing and repair work.

If a board fails an XJTAG con- nection test, XJRunner tells the engi- neer the type of fault it has found and which nets are faulty. It now also provides clickable links to show the location of these nets and the most likely positions of the physical fault on the board.

In addition, Layout Viewer can show the distance between objects and provides control over which lay- ers are visible. This makes it easy to see specific items on a board. Engineers can use the zoom tool to view relevant information and can choose to print the graphics or export them to the clipboard or a file.

The Layout Viewer helps to shorten and simplify the design/

debug process because engineers can immediately visualize a fault in a board, without needing to open additional software or having to go back to the board designer for assis- tance.

Tyco Splice Seals Without

Heat or Tapes Harrisburg, PA — A new cold-applied splice from Tyco Electronics provides both wire termination and environ- mental sealing in a single step.

Cold-applied sealing splices.

Sealing is provided without the need for adhesives, tapes, grommets or other methods traditionally used in aerospace and defense applica- tions. Because no heat is needed, the splice can be applied in potentially hazardous places, such as in fueled aircraft.

The one-piece construction not only simplifies use, it allows a com- pact space-saving profile. The immersible splice prevents water from entering even under permanent pressure or weight.

The splice uses a non-flowing gel to provide excellent sealing with- out mess. The metal splice is tin- plated copper with a transparent polyvinylidene fluoride sleeve and color-coded thermoplastic end caps. The splices are available in three color-coded sizes for 26 AWG to 12 AWG wire with silver or copper- plate conductors. They are rated for operation from -65 to +150°C. They meet the requirements of SAE-AMS- DTL-23053/8 for insulation sleeve and the current draft of SAE- AS81824/12 (modified for 150°C) crimp splices. Contact: Tyco Electronics, P.O.
