April, 2011 Essemtec: Flexible Swiss Made Solutions

Aesch, Switzerland — Essemtec is showing a range of new equipment that includes its Tucano automatic stencil printer designed to meet the needs of solar wafer printing and metallization. The printer com-

bines accuracy and quality with high-speed and reliability, and has an unusual double camera vision sys- tem with no moving parts or mirrors. Tucano’s special design uses

only one XY-drive for vision, PCB stopper, stencil cleaning system, stencil load and unload, and 2D inspection. According to the compa- ny, this design increases reliability and simplifies maintenance. In addi-

tion, the printer requires less space than other printers with a 600 x 580mm printing area occupying a footprint of only 1.3m2 (14 ft.2). It uses fewer motors than

other systems, providing savings in needed drive control electronics and energy consumption. Paraquda fea- tures new materials that provide higher quality as well as a new high- speed control system that provides both higher speed and precision. The Paraquda also features ultra short changeover times and an integrated quality management system that reduces manufacturing costs for elec- tronics.

Also new is the Paraquda, a

pick-and-place machine with a capacity of up to 240 feeders, provid- ing significant added value. The machine’s pick-and-place head can simultaneously hold and measure four components. The machine han- dles a huge range of components — 01005 resistors up to 4-in.2 (25.8cm2) components, which can be up to 1-in. (25.4mm) high. The minimum pitch is specified with 0.01-in. (0.254mm). The high-resolution fly-by vision sys- tem is equipped with the latest Cognex SMD image processing tech- nology, so it can detect any kind of component, even odd-shaped parts. The Paraquda is the first machine generation worldwide that is operat- ed by ePlace pick-and-place software. The new software ePlace has

been designed entirely by Essemtec, and is based on the company’s eez- technology. It has been fully devel- oped in .net, uses an integrated data- base and offers a modern, interac- tive, intelligent and intuitive tool for controlling all parameters. Cobra is the second generation

of assembly systems based on ePlace. According to the company, it is first SMD pick-and-place system to com- bine the advantages of a highly flexi- ble pick-and-place with the through- put of a multi-axes placer. The sys- tem is equipped with the best that today’s drive and material technolo- gies have to offer: linear motors, a high-speed bus and signal processing system, carbon fiber parts and a min- eral compound base are some of the features that make the machine so fast, reliable and extremely precise. Cobra offers an 8-axes placement head in which each of the axes can place the full range of components that range from 01005 to 100 x 150mm (4 x 5.9-in.). In addition, the

system has a capacity of up to 240 feeders with 220 feeders in inline mode. The placement area is speci- fied at 23.6 x 23.6-in. 600 x 600mm) and placement speed is rated at 20,000 cph (IPC-9850). Tower is an automatic storage

system for SMD reels and trays. The SMD Tower delivers up to 546 SMD reels or trays and requires 8-12 sec- onds to dispense any component required. The Tower is recommend- ed in low- or high-volume produc- tion. It is especially suitable if batch sizes are low and changeovers are very frequent. The automatic stor- age system saves time and reduces search problems. The storage sys- tem can be expanded with addition- al Towers at any time. Contact: Essemtec USA, 816 N.
