Car Test Q3 Sportback, 35 TFSI 150PS, S line, S tronic
The Audi Q3 is a smaller incarnation of the German manufacturer’s flagship 4x4, the Q7. It’s been part of British roads since 2011 and can be counted as the go-to compact SUV for any of today’s road users (us included).
We tested the Q3 Sportback, 35 TFSI 150PS, S line, S Tronic. It’s compact yet forgiving, exactly what you want from a small to medium sized family car. The front is spacious, the back can fit several people comfortably (including those with baby requirements) and the boot will easily hold multiple bags of shopping. It boasts a supremely comfortable interior too - a trademark trait of the Audi brand - and the inside design certainly leans towards the higher quality end of the car spectrum.
If you’re looking to veer outside of the urban sprawl, then Audi’s proven track record in four-wheel-drive systems will have you covered no matter what the weather. Once again it came to the fore on winding Somerset lanes, taking pot holes with gusto.
So what does the on the road price come in at? Well for less than £40,000, it’s hard to scoff considering the ride quality that’s on offer. Easy to drive, reliable across all terrain and fit with mod cons galore, the Q3 Sportback doesn’t skimp on speed either. Think a hot hatchback, but beefed up for the discerning family purchaser.

A6 Avant, 50 TFSI e quattro 299PS, S line , S tronic
More of the same from one of Germany’s leading car makers. There’s fierce competition in the world of top class, family-marketed estate vehicles. Differentiating between manufactures can prove tricky, but Audi remain in their own lane when it comes to solid, reliable, technologically-advanced motors.
Which is exactly where the A6 Avant sits. The TFSI engine packs enough oomph on the roads to ensure you can get from A to B in good time and the suspension makes ride comfort a winner. Even in the back there was little vibration, so rest assured the little ones will be able to sleep the journey on long motorway trips.
Inside, again there’s plenty of space. You’ll notice that’s a recurring theme with Audis in this edition of Car Test, but it’s a trait not all modern manufacturers can attest to. Be it the back, front or directly in the driver’s seat, there’s leg room aplenty and more than enough head height to keep even the tallest folk happy.
Looks-wise, we like the S line styling. With a sporty feel and beefed up COMMERCIAL PROPERTY MONTHLY 2023
contours, it does the motor justice aesthetically - without skimping on practical additions. Dual screen infotainment layout, onboard computer system, DAB radio and a whopping ten inside speakers ensure all mod cons are ticked off.
The OTR price comes in at just over £60,000. That’s more than the A4, but considering the size and what comes as standard, it’s still good going in light of the rest of the field. You know when purchasing this motor that it’ll be with you for years to come, especially considering how versatile it is for all manor of uses.
Audi proves once again just why they’re so exemplary, delivering a top class, family-based estate that anyone could do with.
