Blackpool’s multi-billion-pound investment programme is currently transforming the business environment, through regenerating the town centre, extending the tourism economy, and creating commercial units to create jobs in growth sectors.
Town Centre Regeneration Talbot Gateway is the flagship development in regenerating Blackpool town centre. The site sits next to Blackpool North train station which receives 2 million visitors a year, and will connect up to Blackpool’s Promenade via its famous tramway.
A new Holiday Inn, Marco Pierre White New York Italian restaurant and tramway extension connecting to Blackpool Promenade is set to open later in 2023, with five Class E retails units, ranging from 400sq ft to 1800 sq ft available to occupy ahead of its opening later this year.
A new £100m, 200,000sq ft regional office for the UK Government is due to complete in 2024, while land acquisition is currently taking place for a new £65m Multiversity education campus within the site.
As part of regenerating Blackpool town centre, two new leisure developments are also nearing completion. Abingdon Street Market, a new artisan food market, is set to open in May 2023, with Backlot Cinema, containing the UK’s largest IMAX screen, to follow later in the year. Additionally, a new Frasers department store will invigorate the Houndshill Shopping Centre when it opens in late 2023.

Jobs
Blackpool Airport is one of the country’s most successful Enterprise Zones, creating 3,000 new jobs since its inception in 2017. With an estimated £300m of additional private sector development potential, 25 acres of newly unlocked commercial land are primed for commercial development at the EZ’s Eastern Gateway with accommodation in secure, landscaped plots ranging from 15,000sq ft to 100,000sq ft available from 2024.
Additionally, plans for a new Knowledge Quarter for the technology and data centre sector are under way with an ethically powered data centre demonstrator earmarked to start in 2024. A solar farm and battery storage facility are also planned, together with a proposed Knowledge Quarter scheme which would be home to a hub of ethically powered data centres.
