The North West Together we are
Westmorland & Furness Council
Westmorland & Furness Council - Not heard of them before? That’s understandable, they only launched as a unitary authority on 1 April this year!
Westmorland & Furness Council cover areas that were previously administered by the councils of Cumbria County, Barrow, Eden and South Lakeland in Cumbria. But just because they’re new, doesn’t mean they’re small. By geography Westmorland & Furness is the third largest authority in England, home to
225,000 people, some of the
country’s most stunning landscapes and its most hi-tech businesses.
And with thousands of new long-term roles earmarked for industry, with transformative regeneration
and nationally
significant
infrastructure projects in the pipeline and a new authority primed and ready to help unlock the area’s potential - there’s so much more to come.
Join the Westmorland & Furness Journey
Westmorland and Furness is a special place. On the coast is Barrow-in-Furness, a historic shipbuilding town and port now with cutting edge sub-sea technology industries, while inland South Lakeland and Eden have a rural, land- based economy with a strong visitor economy.
They have a growing cluster of creative industries which thrive on the inspiration of the environment and excellent artistic and cultural institutions. Westmorland & Furness also have strengths in environmental technologies and are at the forefront of the transition to a clean growth economy.
They have strong higher and further education.
This all adds up to an economy which offers many opportunities for people to thrive, for businesses to grow and adapt, and for businesses and people to bring their skills and talents to Westmorland and Furness.
Westmorland & Furness believe sustainable, inclusive economic growth is essential to deliver high quality jobs.
