Car Test Q4 e-tron, 40 204PS 150kW, Launch Edition


All of us at Car Test have had a soft spot for Audis. Be it the iconic four rings or the vehicles’ world-renowned roadworthiness, the German manufacturer has built a name for itself by manufacturing high-quality cars that are dependable, sturdy and technologically-advanced. So when the Q4 e-tron landed on our lap, we jumped at the chance to review it.


It’s the bigger relative of the Q3 (more on that in this issue), but smaller than the flagship Q7. Don’t let that fool you though - this little number can still handle off-road situations with ease, just its nimble size means you can skip around city streets easily too. Think 4x4 meets urban living.


Then there’s the fact it’s electric. More-and-more the electric revolution is here to stay, making Audi’s e-tron variants the ideal candidates for anyone looking to reduce their carbon footprint. Silent on the roads with rapid charging capabilities (it holds a 135kW maximum DC charging capacity as standard), you can plug in and charge up in no time at all - ideal for the quick-paced environment of the city.


The particular model we tested was the Q4 e-tron, 40 204PS 150kW, Launch Edition (OTR price just shy of £50,000). A lovely interior made for an impressive passenger and driving experience, with a plethora of contemporary features on board to keep anyone entertained. The built in SONOS system and augmented reality head-up display made long motorway journeys especially palatable.


Now, onto the road test. Like most Audis it’s a very smooth ride, not just on urban streets but long-haul motorways too. We took it down several country lanes to gauge how it would navigate the Great British outdoors, it’s technically an offroader after all, and it met them with ease. All whilst being a state-of-the-art electric motor too.


A4 Avant 40 TDI quattro 204PS S line S tronic


Another Audi, a new design. This time an estate, as we road tested the A4 Avant 40 TDI quattro. Overall, a thoroughly well-designed car, comfortable to drive, well-suited to families and a motor that takes to city streets like a duck to water.


Let’s begin under the bonnet. Performance-wise it handles corners with ease, forgiving when going around sharp bends but tough enough to make you feel safe and secure. Speaking of safety, we were mightily impressed with some of the features that come as standard. Cruise control to maintain a steady speed, rear parking sensors to warn of any obstacles, and an automatic braking system to stop any human error-induced crashes.


Onto the interior. Plush, luxurious, technical, clean, well-fitted - descriptions that have become synonymous with the Audi brand. Soft leather and an easily navigable on-board computer system mean you passengers can not only relax in a comfortable environment, but also stay entertained on long journeys.

see how the package quickly adds up to form an all-in-one family car that’s near the top in terms of comfort and quality. We liked the S line trim also (who wouldn’t be fond of a few styling enhancements to take you back to the quattro days of Le Manx).


So, what will it set you back? £46,685. Bear in mind that this model comes with more bells and whistles than you can shake a stick at, we’d say that’s not bad going by any means. You can’t put a price on safety and reliability (especially if little ones are in the back) and the A4 excels in both of those areas. Then add a welcome dose of luxury and comfort, to see the overall bang for your buck here is very strong indeed.
