Car Test Room at the Top: Citroën Dispatch and Peugeot Boxer
N
ow we turn our attention to the Citroën Dispatch, an excellent van with power, efficiency, space and comfort in equal
measure. Like all of Citroën’s commercial vehicles it incorporates the latest generations of driving aid technologies and engines. We especially liked the hands-free sliding side doors, and there’s up to 1400 kg payload, up to 6.6 m3 of useful volume and 4m of useful length. Y adaptable business vehicle which is functional, practical and has a terrifically designed passenger cabin.
Another important bonus as you move about the town and city getting your work done is that the Dispatch can easily enter car parks that are often difficult to access for vehicles of this type, meaning you don’t have to double park or risk fines. On Car Test we’re more used to reviewing cars, as the title suggests, but when we climbed into the Dispatch we were very impressed with
ergonomically designed cabin, the high driving position gives you a clear view of the road ahead and posture is very comfortable as the seats are adjustable for height and legroom.
Citroën Dispatch is roomy and superbly powered, with the Dispatch Blue HDi 120 returns a huge 53.3 mpg in the Combined Cycle and has a top speed of 106 mpg. There are some very innovative technical flourishes, for example, the headlamps actively switch from full to dipped beam when oncoming cars are detected, and there’s the Adaptive Speed Limiter system which provides the driver with the option of accepting the recommended speed with the press of a button. Driving commercial vehicles is an increasingly pleasurable experience and Citroën have led the way in that for decades. The Citroën Dispatch range starts at £19, 540. For full details visit

The Lion’s Share – Peugeot Boxer T
his month on Car Test we review the imperious Peugeot Boxer, surely the most impressive large commercial vehicle in its class. First impressions, you notice the Boxer’s exterior is surprisingly
attractive thanks to the large grille, stylish headlights, flowing lines and immaculate paintwork. And of course, the length and height yield huge load volumes of up to seventeen cubic metres with a whopping payload of 1,900 kg. Peugeot have also been at the forefront in recognising that a comfortable and stylish cabin is perhaps even more important in a commercial vehicle than it might be in a saloon car, given length of journey and the potentially strenuous activity you might be involved in. As we climbed aboard we were highly impressed with the Boxer’s interior, which has an elegant feel for such a large vehicle. It’s very spacious and provides fantastic options of storage with two large gloveboxes, huge door bins and additional room under the seats. Peugeot adds to the attractive kit count with Bluetooth, USB ports, and excellent radio and heated door mirrors, almost an office on wheels with a car-like driving experience.
Fuel economy is also a key reason we appreciate the Boxer, with a return of up to 47.1 mpg, and it’s fitted with a crisp six-speed manual gearbox delivering power responsively to the to the front wheels. Plus, you’ll have no issue with speed, the engine is willing and able to keep pace with motorway traffic, making it pleasurable and punctual on longer journeys.
