Companies seek to invest in Cheshire West and Chester C
heshire West and Chester Council welcomed new Chief Executive Andrew Lewis last month and he is excited about the future for the borough’s thriving business community.
The diverse range of businesses, many of which focus on the manufacturing and finance industries, are looking forward to economic growth in the year ahead.
Commenting on the area’s growth potential, Andrew Lewis said: “Cheshire West and Chester Council is home to a strong professional and business community alongside a well-established manufacturing base.
“The area is one of the most sought after locations in the UK. This is demonstrated by the presence of major national and international companies including Essar, Tata Chemicals, Vauxhall Motors, Jiffy Packaging, and Ecolab.

With access to more than two million people within one hour’s drive, the potential for these large companies and the many SMEs to grow further is strong, and Cheshire West business is working to help businesses to prosper.
The Council has made major investments in town centres and key industrial locations across west Cheshire to encourage economic growth, create jobs and help communities across the borough to thrive.
34 Key Successes
In the last 18 months, the borough’s main towns have welcomed investment from significant national and international companies. Major investment in Ellesmere Port, particularly in the Cheshire Science Corridor, which benefits from Government Enterprise Zone Status, has been made by the Prowell group Thysen Technology and German-owned Helukabel who have all relocated to the area or expanded significantly in the last six months.
Barons Quay shopping centre in Northwich is flourishing with new national retailers H and M, Sports Direct and the Entertainer moving to the site this year to join Wildwood, Asda and Odeon Cinemas.
Growth is also evident in Winsford with the expansion of the town’s industrial estate. A £5 million infrastructure scheme by the Council is opening up 30 hectares of land for manufacturing businesses. The scheme’s anchor tenant Tiger Trailers is already committing to the project with a £20 million investment into growing its business on the expanding site. Winsford is a town on the up and the Council is committed to investing in its future. Supporting this vision by making the town their home are other major employers such as Rolls Royce Henkel, Jiffy Packaging International Paper and H and M Distribution.
In Chester, the Council supported local businesses in the Chester West Industrial Estate to create of a Business Improvement District to bring in more investment over the next five years. The Council is also inviting businesses to invest in its buildings and its 80,000 sq ft HQ building in the city has secured new tenants including Knights Solicitors and the Chester Racecourse company. It has been a momentous year for the city which welcomed the Queen and the Duchess of Sussex to open the popular Storyhouse as part of a wider £37 million cultural scheme. It is part of the wider Northgate development which is being planned to offer residents retail, cultural and leisure activities.
