Effectiveness of the Markham Vale Partnership and its ability to drive meaningful and sustained regeneration, is illustrated in the fact that the number of people now employed on site exceeds 2,300 (more than were originally employed in the collieries there) – on 2. 2mn sqft of commercial space.

Emerging Propositions


And if that isn’t enough, there are three major schemes just waiting in the wings.


One of the projects currently poised for delivery is the South Derbyshire Growth Zone which sits within the vicinity of the main Toyota, Rolls Royce sites and Infinity Park.


The SDGZ project will create a new access from the A50 and link road into the site, bringing forward up to 4,500 homes and 3. 5m sqft of commercial floorspace.


The £70m scheme is set to be supported by Government funding (LUF) and delivered through a genuine partnership approach with the County, City and South Derbyshire District councils working closely with other private sector partners.


Within the same locality is the proposed East Midlands Intermodal Park (EMIP), a 173-hectare business park, which is part of the East Midlands Freeport, and set to become the UK’s leading automotive manufacturing and logistics hub.


Currently at feasibility stage, the scheme is designed to attract £4bn investment and create 10,000 jobs. Adjacent to Toyota Manufacturing UK, the EMIP site is a game-changer in this part of Derbyshire, com- bining strategic connectivity with clean energy potential - making it one of the most exciting investment propositions in the UK right now. And then in north Derbyshire, the proposed Chesterfield-Staveley Regeneration Route (CSRR) offers a once-in-a-generation oppor- tunity which will transform the former Staveley Works Corridor and create a genuinely new, sustainable community.
