Newly commissioned A selection of shows recently greenlit in the UK as featured on televisual.com DRAMA


Floodlights - BBC2 The BBC has commissioned Expectation to make Floodlights, a new feature-length single drama that tells the story of footballer Andy Woodward. It was commissioned by Piers Wenger and Charlotte Moore. Execs are Colin Barr for Expectation, Lucy Richer and Clare Sillery for the BBC and Sue Horth and Grant Best.


The Full Monty - Disney+ Little Island Productions is bringing the original team from hit film The Full Monty back together again for a limited series. Co-commissioned by Disney + and FX, the screenwriter is Simon Beaufoy and producer Uberto Pasolini.


The Tourist S2 – BBC1 The Tourist (6×60’) series 2 is a Two Brothers Pictures production written by Harry and Jack Williams who, alongside Christopher Aird, will serve as executive producers for Two Brothers and Tommy Bulfin for BBC One and iPlayer.


The Responder S2 - BBC1 The Responder (5×60’) series 2 is written by ex- police officer Tony Schumacher and produced by Dancing Ledge Productions. Laurence Bowen and Chris Carey are executive producers for Dancing Ledge Productions and Mona Qureshi for BBC. .


Vigil S2 - BBC1 Vigil (6×60’) series 2 is written and created by Tom Edge and made by World Productions. It is executive produced by Simon Heath and Jake Lushington for World Productions, Gaynor Holmes for the BBC and Tom Edge.


Time S2 – BBC1 Time (3×60’) series 2 is written by Jimmy McGovern and is a BBC Studios production for BBC One and iPlayer.


Crime S2 - ITVX ITV has commissioned a second series of Irvine Welsh’s Crime, for ITVX, starring Dougray Scott

Dougray Scott will return as troubled detective, Ray Lennox. Produced by Buccaneer Media and Off Grid Film and TV, and scripted by Welsh alongside screenwriting partner, Dean Cavanagh, the six-part drama will be an ITVX premiere


Before We Die – Channel 4 Channel 4 has recommissioned five-part crime thriller, Before We Die, starring Lesley Sharp, Vincent Regan and Patrick Gibson, from Eagle Eye Drama. Lesley Sharp returns to head up the cast as detective Hannah Laing, who joins forces with maverick detective Billy Murdoch, played by Vincent Regan in a desperate bid to protect her son Christian, played by Patrick Gibson. Commissioned by Channel 4 Head of Drama Caroline Hollick and Commissioning Editor Gwawr Lloyd, the second series will be directed by Carolina Giammetta (The Drowning, Hollington Drive), written by Mark Evans (That Mitchell and Webb Look) and will be filmed in Bristol and Belgium this year with Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino as Executive Producers.


Domina - EPIX US network EPIX has renewed Tiger Aspect’s historical drama Domina for an eight-episode second season. The series will be produced by Tiger Aspect, in association with EPIX Studios, following an agreement with distributor Banijay Rights. The series is created by Simon Burke (Fortitude, Strike Back), with Burke, Lucy Bedford, Muirinn Lane Kelly and Carmel Maloney as executive producers. EPIX has the U.S. rights, with the second season returning to Sky across Europe in 2023. .


Maryland - ITV ITV has commissioned three-part relationship drama, Maryland, created by Suranne Jones and screenwriter Anne-Marie O’Connor. Monumental Television will produce the drama in association with ITV Studios, which will also star Suranne Jones who will also executive produce the drama which is a co-production with her company, Teamakers Productions.


The Blue - Paramount + Paramount+ has ordered original UK drama series The Blue (7 x 55”), from New Pictures, adapted from Lucy Clarke’s best-selling novel “No Escape,” ahead of the launch of the global streaming service in the UK this summer. The lead writer for the series is Kris Mrksa (White House Farm) and Hans Herbots (The Serpent, Cobra) is the lead director. Executive Producers for New Pictures are Elaine Pyke and Willow Grylls with Kris Mrksa.


Army of Strangers Vertigo Films (Britannia, Bulletproof, Bronson, Monsters) has partnered with Hollywood Gang Productions (300, Immortals, Start Up) to develop Army of Strangers (8×45’) for television. British writer and director, Matthew Parkhill (Deep State, Rogue) has been confirmed to write the action series. Allan Niblo is executive producing and Nathalie Peter-Contesse is overseeing development for Vertigo Films. Gianni Nunnari is executive producing for Hollywood Gang Productions. Matthew Parkhill is writing and showrunning and will also serve as an executive producer.


Flatshare – Paramount + Paramount+ has greenlit original UK drama series Flatshare (6×45’). The series stars Jessica Brown Findlay and Anthony Welsh. 42 is producing Flatshare in association with VIS – the international studio division of Paramount Global. Flatshare was commissioned by Sebastian Cardwell, Deputy Chief Content Officer, UK, Paramount. Rose Lewenstein (On the Edge) is lead writer and executive producer on the series, with Peter Cattaneo (The A Word, Rev, The Full Monty) as lead director and executive producer. Joining Lewenstein on the writing team are Sarah Simmonds (Killing Eve, The Irregulars), Ryan Calais Cameron (Typical), and Alex Straker (The Last Kingdom). Chloë Wicks (On the Edge) will direct block two. Executive producers for 42 are Miriam Brent, Rory Aitken and Eleanor Moran. Rhonda
