Rutini Trumpeter Rosé de Malbec Brut 2013 This sparkling 100% Malbec from the Tupungato Valley in Mendoza, Argentina is an absolute joy. Bright salmon pink, the nose offers plenty of delicate red berries, slight toasty notes and a touch of caramel, leading to a crisp and refreshing mouthful of strawberry, wild cherry and cranberry fruit with a herbal and creamy texture coming from the lees aging, like Champagne. Very attractive and gluggable yet impressive dexterity, sophistication and charm- will make you look at Malbec in a whole new light.


Dom Pérignon P2 Rosé 1996


At the other end of the sparkling pink vector we have Dom’s latest release after spending the best part of 20 years maturing in the cellars of L’Abbaye d’Hautvillers, the birthplace of Champagne. This remarkable rosé has great poise and tension, with red currants and rhubarb, softened by a dollop of crème fraiche and finishing with a saline tang. As serious as rosé Champagne gets and with an equally serious €915 a bottle price tag.


A joint project with the Brunier brothers of Chateauneuf- du-Pape’s famous Vieux Télégraphe, this perky pink, made largely from the southern French Cinsault grape which thrives in the arid Beqaa valley just across the border from Syria, is fast becoming Lebanon’s trendiest wine, enjoyed in all of Beirut’s top night spots and seafront cafés. With its light blush colour, fresh peach and floral notes, and light spice finish lifted by a touch of bitter almond, you could easily be forgiven for assuming you were drinking from the Luberon not the Levant.


PR (Provençal Rosé) 2016 From Bormes les Mimosas in the Lavandou near St. Tropez, this is the quintessential Provençal rosé, again with a heavy hit of Cinsault but this time dominated by Grenache with its cherry bright, fruit and sweet softness. Warmed by the Mediterranean sun and cooled by the coastal breezes, PR exemplifies the new breed of the timeless taste of the Côte d’Azur, an enjoyable high heels on the beach pink to be consumed copiously, paired with the laughter of beautiful people.


Red Car Rosé of Pinot Noir 2015 For those who like to bring a little more oomph to the party, this powerful, fruit-driven pink Pinot from Sonoma in California really is a whole lotta Rosé. Do not be fooled by the deceptively anaemic colour, this whole- bunch pressed wine with ripe flavours of tangerine, pink grapefruit and Morello cherry, is a succulent mouthful and will put paid to any thoughts that rosé lacks body or complexity.


Elena Walch Moscato Rosa 2013 From Termeno (Tramin) in the foothills of the Dolomites, this very rare Italian wine is rarely seen outside the region, let alone the country but is worth all efforts to track down. A most unusual and delicate late harvest dessert wine, dusky pink in hue, the ‘Rosa’ actually refers to the intense rose petal perfume it exudes. Like liquid Turkish Delight, with a whiff of cloves and cinnamon balanced by a fresh vein of spicy acidity, this intriguing, versatile wine is great with Gorgonzola Piccante, light fruit tarts, or makes for an elegant digestif.
