port betting is the bright and shiny but casino is what keeps the lights on. Having been a recruiter for the gambling space since its US inception, I’ve been saying this for many years; now it seems to fi nally be catching on!


Executives in the US iGaming space are now publicly saying that casino is the road to profi tability. With seven states seeing the revenue potential of iGaming and Rhode Island hopefully soon to make it eight, iGaming recruitment only looks set to become more competitive in 2024, with casino leading the charge.

t’s going to be an incredibly interesting year in the world of esports and esports betting. One of the biggest trends will be signifi cant changes to two of the most


popular games, CS:GO (now CS2) and Dota2. With the former, CS2 has totally replaced CS:GO and with DOTA2 we will see an overhaul of the structure and format of matches and competitions. As a data and odds provider, we have gone to great lengths to ensure that we are ready for these changes so that we can deliver consistency and stability for our customers. With Dota2 specifi cally, we are planning for initial volume based on the matches and tournaments we know are currently popular. This is something we are good at thanks to our specialist trading team – we have traders


Recruitment on the supplier side has really been focused on commercial roles. Most of these are leadership positions in account management, operations, and customer support, as suppliers are looking to get their content, platforms, and company deeply integrated into operators in the legalized states. Additionally, game studios are growing across their studio, hiring game designers (hottest role at the end of 2023), game artists, animators, and development for both games and platforms to remain relevant in the highly competitive casino content space.


On the operator side, the focus has been on


digital marketing (CRM is in high demand, to get players to the platform and keep them there), product, and VIP/player development. Each of these roles is so consumer focused: marketing attracting players to the platform, product


fi ne-tuning the application(s) to player needs, and VIP/player development segmenting players with incentives and touch points, so they remain on their platform versus going to a competitor.


Next year in 2024, the iGaming space looks set to continue to grow, not on only in revenue but with additional states. With those


expectations, we expect that online casino recruitment will be the key battleground for


companies (both operators and suppliers) aiming to stay competitive in the US market over the long haul.

This is because momentum is really building behind esports betting and as is always the case, where the tier ones go, others follow. Many also understand the huge untapped potential that exists with esports betting, and the advantage of getting in early with an authentic, compelling product. In North America regulation is another reason why operators are making a move into esports betting. In the past, esports betting was often banned by regulators, but now we are seeing it being rolled into requirements for sports betting. This is certainly the case in several North American states and provinces where as an esports data provider, we simply have to meet the same requirements as traditional data and odds suppliers.


This is an important step forward and helps to legitimise esports as a signifi cant vertical for licensed operators in these markets. I expect we will see more jurisdictions take this approach over the next 12 months, acting as another catalyst for growth.
