his is going to be a big year for the UK market following the publication of the government white paper last year and the resulting consultations which are currently taking place. Changes are afoot, but it would seem they will be more proportionate and balanced than initially expected.
The greatest area of concern is affordability and how this will impact high-rollers and VIPs. There is a fear that many of these players will turn to the black market where such checks are not required, but I believe that if operators engage with players and explain why these checks are required, this won’t happen.
At Comparasino, we are keeping a close eye on the consultations around bonusing and the changes that may come into force. This is an area where operators are self-regulating – bonuses have been watered down recently with many now offering a simple 100% deposit match and a handful of free spins. Any additional changes here could
signifi cantly impact customer acquisition, with bonuses still the main factor players consider when looking for new online casinos to play at. Any further limits imposed on bonuses are likely to push players to the black market. So long as any changes from the white paper and consultations are proportionate, we
