“In 2022 we’ve got two new family party games up our sleeves: Shoot for the Stars and Sounds Fishy”
As you probably know by now, at Big Potato we love a family party game. It’s our bread and butter sort of game and adheres perfectly to our mantra: easy to learn, quick to play and really good fun for all ages. Last year we launched Herd Mentality, which was moo-vellously silly and went down really well in the UK and US, selling over 500,000 copies worldwide. In 2022 we’ve got two new family party games up our sleeves: Shoot for the Stars and Sounds Fishy.
Shoot for the Stars is all about answering
random questions with a number. For example: “How many Pringles are there in a tube of Pringles?”. Going around the table, each player makes a guess that is higher than the last. If they think the previous guess was too high, they can jump ship, or stick along for the ride. Points are awarded for getting close to the answer but not shooting past, or for wisely abandoning the ship if it turns out the guess was too high. Sounds Fishy is a game full of ridiculous questions, such as: “In France, what is illegal to call your pig?” One player doesn’t know the answer, the rest do. The other players each invent a fake answer and the first player tries to pick the fakes without turning over the real one. It’s a push your luck game so you can bank points at any time but if you keep going and hit the true answer, you lose everything. (The real answer was Napoleon, by the way.) Our two biggest family party games from last year, Herd Mentality and Colourbrain, are still going strong and in 2022 we are planning our biggest ever UK marketing campaign to get them into even more hands! Our most exciting launch in 2022 is a game called What Next? Imagine if Crystal Maze the TV show and a Choose-Your- Own-Adventure book had a board game baby and this would be it. We’re billing it as the world’s first action-adventure board game. You all work together to complete the adventures, taking on mental and dexterity challenges along the way to avoid collecting
pieces of peril. If your Tower of Peril collapses before you reach the end, it’s game over. Finally, we’ve been doing a bit of science.
Not a science game but studying the science behind people’s attitudes and behaviours towards board games. If you’d like to discover our findings, then drop by our stand and we’ll get out the pie-charts. Talking of stands, we’re going to rock up at the show with our biggest and sexiest display yet. We’d love to welcome you to it and talk all things board games. Simply head over to Stand b20 or email trade@bigpotato.
