It has 25 branches, 6 of them trade as Builders Supply (Kendal) and 1 as Hathaway Timber - across Tyne and Wear, Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. JTA Flood is Atkinson’s specialist flood prevention arm, based at the Penrith branch.

In 1954, Herbert Dove put the company into Trust and today, like the John Lewis Partnership, profits continue to be distributed to the members of staff.
