IBC FOCUS: Exhibition Review

ForgeFix

Forgefix has been a leading supplier of fixings and fastenings to the trade since 1991, supplying more than 5,000 different product lines to merchants across the UK. In pride of place on the Forgefix stand were the Spectre and ForgeFast brands, two of the company’s most popular product ranges. ForgeFast is a complete range of elite performance screws that feature a proprietary self-drilling thread. Spiral grooves form the drill cutting edge and drill flutes remove, rather than displace timber, reducing the risk of the wood splitting. The self-drilling design reduces torque so power tool batteries last longer and screws drive in faster. The sharp point of the screw is capable of penetrating 0.8mm steel, so no pre-drilling is required.

The Spectre range is an advanced range of multi-purpose wood screws, timber fixing screws, screwdriver bits and bi-metal hole saws, all of which include advanced features. The screws are CE approved for structural timber, zinc yellow passivated and feature an anti-corrosion coating.

Each box comes with a 1:1 illustration of the actual screw size, making it easier for users to identify which product they need without having to open multiple boxes. Rebecca Fortescue-Halliwell, head of marketing & digital strategy at Forgefix, said: “We offer a ‘good, better, best’ range of products to support builders’ merchants at all price points, and we’ve been getting a really

positive response to them here at the IBC Exhibition.”

Forterra used the exhibition to promote its range of clay bricks, concrete blocks and precast concrete flooring. Forterra produces more than 600 building products, with brands including Thermalite, Red Bank and Formpave. Among Forterra’s product range are Class B Engineering 65mm bricks – a favourite of IBC members through the unique IBC Brickfinder offer. Class B engineering bricks are sold as utility bricks and conform to a high technical specification. The bricks have a smooth texture and a compressive strength of 75N/mm2, and also a standard work size of 215mm x 102.5mm x 65mm.

Also available as part of the Forterra Thermalite range of concrete blocks, Thermalite Aircrete Shield is incredibly versatile and can be used in a variety of applications, including external walls, foundations, partitions and separating walls. Thermalite has a closed micro-cellular structure that features tiny pockets of trapped air, offering distinctive benefits such as high thermal and sound insulation, lightness, high compressive strength and fire resistance. These thermal insulation properties help make a project’s U-value targets easier to achieve, reducing CO2 emissions during a building’s life. www.forterra.co.uk

Long Rake Spar

Decorative aggregate supplier Long Rake Spar’s stand features a wide range of the company’s products, including a ‘pick and mix’ display of 20 of its most popular decorative aggregates.

The company is 150 years old and has distribution hubs in Liverpool, Rye and Derby, from which it supplies everything from shingle, gravel and chippings to pebbles, cobbles, rockery and boulders.

Shane McCormick, national sales manager, said: “Lots of IBC members have visited our stand already and we’ve had great feedback about our service levels. Our internal and external sales teams are always out there building relationships with our customers. Even after 150 years, Long Rake Spar is a family run business that values and prioritises customer service, product innovation and marketing support.” longrakespar.co.uk

As well as the opportunity to engage with almost 100 IBC Supplier Partners and Service Providers, visitors to the Exhibition were also able to take advantage of hundreds of exclusive offers and Spot Buy deals, many of which were only available at the show. This enabled IBC members to maximise their investment of time on the day, by placing orders and getting even better deals than are already available as part of their IBC membership.
