New Ward 2 Alderman Craig Soling Appointed to Yorkville City Council

Mayor John Purcell on Nov. 23, 2021 swore in Yorkville resident Craig Soling Second Ward Alderman Craig Soling

Sr. to represent Ward 2 on the Yorkville City Council, filling the vacant seat of long-time Alderwoman Jackie Milchewski, who retired in September, 2021. Soling, who lives with his wife Diana and children at 204 Leisure Dr., and has been employed by the Fox Metro Reclamation District for 22 years, was chosen from a list of eight people who applied for the position. “Craig has been active in the community for years, volunteering for many organizations, including the Scouts and as a volunteer firefighter,” Mayor Purcell said of his choice. “Plus his work experience with Fox Metro Sanitary District will be a great asset as we move forward with major projects such as Lake Michigan water and a new public works and parks facility.” Of the former Ward 2 alderwoman, the mayor said her knowledge and experience will definitely be missed. “She was an encyclopedia of Yorkville City

Council history, having served as Clerk and as a Council member under four mayors,” Mayor Purcell said. “Jackie is so even- keeled and was excellent at giving her thoughts on any issue in a direct, yet non-confrontational manner.” Soling, who is a maintenance technician and holds a Class 4 waste water treatment license, has lived in the Yorkville area

for around 20 years. During that time he not only was a cubmaster and committee chair of Pack 340, but was president of his homeowners’ association, and served as president, vice president and secretary on the executive board of union local 3297 at Fox Metro. He says he has for a long time been interested in local government. “When I was a young teenager, I lived down the street from former Alderman Larry Kott and when I first started at Fox

Metro I worked with now retired Aurora Deputy Mayor Chuck Nelson,” Soling said. “Listening to those two guys talk about things always peaked my interest.” He says that now that his three children, Abigail, 22; Craig Jr., 24; and Jacob, 19 are older things have slowed down. “I’m kind of glad I waited because I don’t think I would have been as mentally up to it as I am now. Having worked in the public sector and with families has prepared me for this. Everyone is working well together on the Council. I’m glad to be a part of it. We have a common goal.” Soling says he loves Yorkville and sees a lot of growth potential. He would like to see old Yorkville preserved, but

made trendy. He would like to see Yorkville become kind of a destination. He pointed to the riverfront, Yorkville’s restaurants, and the waterpark. With the right marketing he believes the city could attract more people to local businesses, and also attract more types of businesses, like Air Soft. “Tere is so much this town has to offer,” he said. “I would like to see Escape Rooms and lazer tag, things of that nature, to draw people to our town,to get the hotels filled up. A little resort town on the river. I’d like to preserve the old, but embrace the new.” He says he plans to run when his term is up in 2023. In the meantime, he urges residents to get in touch with him if they have issues to discuss or to just talk.“My phone is always on,” he says. “I’m always willing to listen to suggestions.”
