2022 Yorktoberfest expands to two-day celebration Miles Nielson & the Rusted Hearts, a western-

influenced rock music group from Rockford, will be the headliners from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, on the first night of what this year will be a two-day Yorktoberfest down at Yorkville’s Riverfront Park. Jason Pesola, president of the Yorkville Kiwanis

Club, which sponsors the event with the Yorkville Parks & Recreation Dept., said they are hoping by extending it to two days that they will be able to raise even more money for their scholarship funds to aid service-minded young people. Begun by the Kiwanis in 2018, Yorktoberfest in its

first year raised about $12,000. Te following year the event was rained out and in 2020 there was a light turnout because of Covid, Pesola said, but in 2021 Yorktoberfest raised $30,000. Tis year the event has a goal of $45,000.

“Last year the event had grown in popularity and people wanted to get out of their houses,” Pesola said. “Tis year we hope we can drive even more people to the downtown area of Yorkville and raise even more money for our fund.” According to the event website at

kiwanisyorktoberfest.org, on Friday the event will start at 11 a.m., on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. In addition to Friday’s live music, Saturday will have German Music with Fritz and the Pretzel Twists from 3 to 5 p.m. and Te Bratwurst Brothers from 5 to 7 p.m. Craft beer and food booths will be available. Te main sponsor for the event is Flatso Tire. Te Kiwanis Club of Yorkville is a chapter of an international organization that has as its goal “to improve the world by making lasting differences in the lives of children.”
