YORKVILLE AREA

WHY HAVE A DINING GUIDE? As the COVID pandemic hit, restaurants were the very first industry to be shut down by state mandate. We

at the Chamber knew from a business perspective that each business closure meant potential financial devastation for owners and families who would not be receiving paychecks. Some restaurant owners became very resourceful and quickly pivoted their business models to delivery or curbside service. As their business community partner, the Chamber took on the role of getting word out on which

restaurants were remaining open to offer these services. We first built a “Yorkville To Go” Facebook page that remains popular to this day. It quickly took off and became a place for restaurants and their patrons to post meal and service options. We particularly loved the positive vibe of the page; much welcomed in an otherwise difficult time. Customers would frequently post photos of a meal they brought home, and others added comments about how good it looked, or that they hadn’t yet tried that restaurant but were now eager to do so. More than one restaurant owner has stated that the “To Go” page was key to their survival during the shutdown. To supplement the social media page, next we built a printable listing of which restaurants remained open

for take-home options. As weather warmed and outdoor patio dining was permitted, that guide was expanded accordingly. With that, the City deserves high recognition for being tremendously responsive, providing invaluable support through infrastructure and other assistance to the restaurant community during this period. Once everything reopened, we saw the need for a more comprehensive guide to include indoor dining

information and expand on other details, such as meeting room or private event space, pet-friendly patios, and more. It was designed to also be inclusive of bars, bakeries, and packaged food retailers. We were excited to launch this new guide earlier this year, and will make regular updates to it. With its many unique, privately owned restaurants, Yorkville has become a dining destination. Our goal

is that residents, and out-of-towners as well, will benefit from having this handy resource – and that it will enable them to support our local food establishments that are an integral part of this community. Former Chamber Executive Director Sherri Farley
