during the past two years, and everything that came along with it, District 115 provided families with choices on how their children would move forward with learning and instruction. Te district worked closely with staff, teachers, stakeholders, and the Kendall County Health Department to monitor local and regional COVID-19 cases and the fluidity of the ongoing health and safety mitigations. By providing a variety of modalities for learning and instruction; on-site learning, virtual e-learning, or a combination of both, District 115 was able to engage with students in ways surrounding districts did not have the opportunity to achieve. Although different, learning
continued, and recent test scores released by the Illinois State Board of Education show higher scores than surrounding districts in English and Language Arts (ELA), as well as math proficiency in grades three to eight. “Te engine kept running.”

to remodel the athletic facilities department. Discussions are underway regarding the installation of a turf field for the football stadium, turf infields for the Varsity Softball and Varsity Baseball teams, as well as a press box and sound system at the Varsity Softball field. As it emerges from the
pandemic years, the district is looking to expand its resources and facilities heading into the 2022/2023 school year without raising property taxes or calling for a referendum. Among the number of new initiatives that will benefit students, staff, and community is Full Day Kindergarten, something, Dr. Shimp said, the community has been eager to see unfold for many years.

to improve include: Sound-proofing band rooms, replacing and expanding the home side stadium bleachers, installing 478 new cameras for a state-of-the-art security system district- wide, playgrounds and outdoor learning classrooms at each school, the construction of a new maintenance and operations facility that will increase storage, office space, and a new home for the Yorkville Robotics Club, as well as other building improvements, such as roofs and chillers to name a few. “We are extremely excited for the
future of our district and what we will be able to accomplish for our families and community over the next few years,” adds Dr. Shimp.
