FOR SENIORS In April, Senior Services Associates, Inc., received

good news - the Illinois Dept of Public Health lifted the mask mandate for senior facilities. “Because we are dealing with the most vulnerable,

we had asked them to still wear masks, but now (as of mid- April) they can go mask-free,” Micki Miller, Senior Services Associates executive director, said. She added that they are still asking seniors attending their events to do a self-exam in the morning before they come in, and then they ask them questions about their health before allowing them to enter without masks. “Many seniors are still reluctant to do in-person

activities, so we are still doing hybrid activities on Zoom,” Miller said. “We’ve also been doing some outdoor things, like taking hikes, as weather permits. We are looking forward to summer., and our next Kane County Cougars trip.” Te Yorkville Center has been doing some joint

activities with Aurora seniors, in addition to the on-going bingo sessions, and the Matter of Balance and Fit and Strong classes. Another new thing in April, Miller said, is

a new activity director, Amy Cummings, who is a certified theraputic recreation specialist who had been a visiting coordinator.

“Te seniors already know her,” Miller said. “She’ll be having some new things for our seniors to do.”

Seniors On Te Road Again . . . Trips had been canceled during Covid, but now

seniors from Heritage Woods of Yorkville can once again sign up for monthly scheduled bus trips to restaurants, churches, stores, and, like below, to local ice cream parlors.

Forty Yorkville and Aurora seniors last July enjoyed the first outing scheduled since the Covid outbreak by Senior Services, which reserved the Skybox Suite at a Kane County Cougars game. Te day included a buffet, with pop and water and desserts, and a ride on an air-conditioned bus. Social distancing was observed. Senior Services staff reported the Cougars played well and won, and the seniors, who said they had missed being outside with friends during the previous year, all agreed they had fun.
