Yorkville resident George Wederich Jr., 16, a Boy Scout in Troop 40, wants to build a 12 x 24 railroad station platform pavilion this summer for the Prairie State Railroad Club located in Plowman’s Park, Big Rock, as his Eagle Scout project. A member of the Prairie State Railroad Club, he and other members and model train afficionados participated in a fundraiser train show at the Yorkville American Legion Post 489 hall at 9054 E. Route 34 in April to raise money for his project. He estimates he will need $7,000 for the project, and his father, Wally Wederich. says George is well on his way to achieving his goal after the Yorkville event. “It was a huge success,” Wally said. George, who has been a model train enthusiast since he was a toddler and says that both his father and grandfather share his love for the trains, is hosting a community open house at the Club in Big Rock on June 11.
