Get Ready for a Summer of Fun Summer festivities begin this year in Yorkville on Tursday, May
26, from 5 to 9 p.m. with the second annual Margaritas En Mayo, a family-friendly event that will include live traditional Mexican music provided by Mariachi Ameca and Sin Anestesia, food, and family activities. Tis year’s event will have a fireworks display. On Friday, June 24, from 5 to 11 p.m. and Saturday, June 25,
from noon to 11 p.m. at Yorkville’s Riverfront Park the nineth annual Summer Solstice Indie Music Festival will offer live music from an assortment of bands, including country, indy, rock and string bands. Some of this year’s performers include Mo Lowda & the Humble, Justin Wells, Olivia Jean, Strung Like a Horse, Joe Stamm Band, Jason Hawk Harris, Nordista Freeze, India Ramey, and Shannon Baker. Food and drinks will be available. A four-mile and two-mile Summer Solstice Race, held in partnership with the State Champion Yorkville Cross Country program, will start at 7 p.m. Friday at 102 E.
Van Emmon St. Medals will be awarded for top age-group finishers. Participants also can run the race virtually. For more information on the Festival or to register for a race, go to
solisticemusicfest.com. Cardboard boat races will once again be part of the annual River Fest,
this year scheduled for July 15 and 16 at Riverfront Park. Contestants design and build boats out of cardboard, then race them down the Fox River. People vote for their favorite boat by dropping ballots in bags on the boats before the race, then they can cheer them on to winning. In addition to the race, the festival has live music, an assortment of food and drink vendors, and items for sale. Tere
are games and contests for children to play. It’s a fun time for the whole family. Hometown Days is Yorkville’s premier festival, with live entertainment, a car show, rides, booths selling food and a
