CHURCHES

Above, Pastor Tedd Steele talking on Easter Sunday with a parishioner, Jane Boyd, and, right, sharing Easter eggs with younger members of the congregation during the Easter service.

Trinity Church United Methodist

Welcomes New Pastor, Tedd Steele When in 2021, after 8 1/2 years as pastor at Trinity Church United

Methodist at 2505 Boomer Lane, Yorkville, Pastor Mike Stoner retired, members of the church turned to the Methodist Bishop and his cabinet to request a replacement. In July of 2021, their request was answered. After serving at four other area churches in Lisle, Wheaton, Arlington

Heights and Naperville, Pastor Tedd Steele came to serve this Yorkville area congregation. A native of Kansas who attended seminary at the University of Chicago Divinity School, and who says he has been a United Methodist since the age of 5, Pastor Tedd is looking forward to helping the Trinity congregation get restarted after Covid. As someone who, with his wife, has five kids living in a blended household, he says that children and their needs are especially important to him. “Covid took a lot of wind out of our sails, and it’s important to the

congregation that we re-energize our children’s ministry,” he says. “We want to help children engage in worship at their level.” He says they are still working on ways to bring this about, but it will include

making sure that kids find a place where they can sing songs that are meaningful to them and that they can hear messages that meet them where they are. “As kids grow older, we want to help them be involved in leading worship,”

Pastor Tedd says. “Whether that’s singing or leading worship or volunteering in another way.” He says he likes to think of Trinity as a multi-generational church. To encourage older parishioners to get involved, he says they have revamped the Sunday School curriculum to include a video component, and the church has an on-going small group ministry that allows for significant relationship development along with Bible study. “We are working on engaging and welcoming back families after Covid,”
